where ?I would think ND gets a NY day game
aren’t all locked in to conferences ?
isn’t Gator Bowl likely ?
where ?I would think ND gets a NY day game
There's plenty of metrics to suggest the Big Ten has 3 of the 4 best teams in college football, and the other just got left out of the playoff, so 3 in the semis would show well.Am I wrong in thinking that the Big Ten actually got a very favorable playoff seeding in terms of matchups? I could totally see three Big Ten teams in the final 4.
but NCAA has nothing to do with thisLogic and the NCAA have long been enemies.
Those are prediction metrics. Seeding should be based on resume metrics.Looking at the metrics, Notre Dame was the 3rd (Sagarin), 5th (SP+), 3rd (FPI), or 3rd (SRS) best team in college football, and there was somehow no room for them in a 12-team playoff where 5 SEC teams made it, despite there not being a top 5 SEC team in any of those metrics.
That's what's broken.
Because the better team doesn't always win in a head to head matchup. That's why we still think Illinois is better than Wisconsin this year.Weird. I 100% disagree...
What's the point of playing a game if the result of that game isn't used as a direct, first comparison?
What's the point in all the other games?Weird. I 100% disagree...

Notre Dame lost both games against legit good teams, beat two slightly above teams, and then beat up a patheric bunch of nobodies. Same thing they do every year. About time they finally got left out of this instead of being given a free pass again.Miami literally lost to Louisville and Virginia. ND has a better resume overall, and it's not particularly close.
Even still, Alabama is the undeserving winner here.
There's more than one resume metric, so don't put all your eggs in one basket. Connelly's resume metric:Those are prediction metrics. Seeding should be based on resume metrics.
Notre Dame’s SOR: 13
Others:
BYU: 9
Alabama: 10
Vanderbilt: 11
Texas: 12
Miami: 14
Miami really shouldn’t have made it. Alabama I’m fine with. BYU is really the team that got screwed the most.

They played more P4 teams than any other team in FBS. They finished with a better ACC record than Miami (and Alabama!).Notre Dame lost both games against legit good teams, beat two slightly above teams, and then beat up a patheric bunch of nobodies. Same thing they do every year. About time they finally got left out of this instead of being given a free pass again.
In the CFP and NIL era, this should not be completely surprising, especially with coaching changes. It is not out of reason that they would (Iowa State/Kansas State) struggle to even field a complete team. I would expect tons of opt outs for the transfer portal. It is a signal of the times.I have never, and will never, understand why a school would willingly decline playing in a bowl game...
Turns out teams play 12 games, not 1.H2H should be the primary factor. Why even play games otherwise. Football is about winning the game. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
Until ND joins a conference, as long as they are on the bubble, they will not get in. They have to safely be in the top 10. Its just the way it is.The inconsistency with that logic is that Alabama wasn't dropped for losing, but BYU was. Alabama got bumped over ND last week for squeaking by a terrible Auburn team, and then didn't drop from getting blasted by a good Georgia team.
Sorry, selection committee.but NCAA has nothing to do with this
I was taking about this with my son earlier. A lot of people will be talking about how Alabama, Miami, or Notre Dame got screwed (this was before the final rankings were released), but I said no one‘s going to be talking about how BYU is actually the team that should be in there over wither Miami or ND.BYU is really the team that got screwed the most.
What are you talking, earned nothing? There's more than one resume metric, so don't put all your eggs in one basket. Connelly's resume metric:

Again, Alabama earned nothing.
Then all games should be played on a neutral field. Who wants that?H2H should be the primary factor. Why even play games otherwise. Football is about winning the game. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
If anything, this tells ND to play a weaker schedule. If instead of TAMU they schedule an FCS team like everyone else, they're in comfortably.hey ND, play a tougher schedule or get into a conference!
The SEC way!If anything, this tells ND to play a weaker schedule. If instead o TAMU yhey schedule an FCS team like everyone else, they're in comfortably.
They're a good, not great team. They're comfortably the 5th best SEC team in a year where there are probably 8 top 25 SEC teams, but none in the top 5.What are you talking, earned nothing?
I don’t want to be Alabama homer here, but using FPI, they beat the:
#6, #14, #18, #21, and #25 teams.
5 top 25 wins isn’t “nothing”.
Indiana, who absolutely deserves to be the 1 seed, won just 4 such games.
Alabama gets two free passes really. One for the SEC and the other for simply being Alabama. It’s one of my top 5 favorite teams to root against. They played more P4 teams than any other team in FBS. They finished with a better ACC record than Miami (and Alabama!).
Alabama gets the free pass for being in the SEC.
Also, of note, the two non-P4 teams they played were 9-2 Navy and 8-4 MWC champ Boise State.
Miami has *1* top 25 FPI win all season and so does Notre Dame. Alabama has *5*. BYU has 2.They're a good, not great team. They're comfortably the 5th best SEC team in a year where there are probably 8 top 25 SEC teams, but none in the top 5.
They also have losses to the #6 (big and recent), #14 and #33 (week 1, but if the Miami-ND counts this much, that should as well).
This is twice the last 3 years Alabama was snuck into the field undeservingly, and the third year everyone argued for them also only for them to be beat by a terrible Michigan team in a bowl game.
