I believe some day a college coach will poach a high quality HC from an NFL team.... is that day coming and will it be Bama?

Lane has a $80M buyout. Plus he’s at LSU. I don’t think he’s very realistic.

DeBoer supposedly signed a new contract or has a signed MOU that likely makes his buyout just as high. I'm not sure there's a school in the country that would swallow $150+ million in buyout money, plus likely another $20 million in coaching staff buyouts + $30 million or more in roster costs. That would dwarf NFL yearly personnel costs.

I agree. Plus, the coach you hire gets 6 years $90.

Julian Griffin has a link to Barry Lunney from Arkansas and UTSA and is in his 30s; meanwhile, I wonder whether John Settle is another that will be looked at for the RB coach position. Settle coached RBs at Wisconsin 2006-10 with Bielema, then again 2015-20 including the college years of Johnathan Taylor. Now the RB coach at Rice, where the Owls rushed for 213 yards per game with a run-heavy offense in 2025.

Ladell Betts, one of Iowa's rising stars in the coaching ranks, is off to the NFL to coach alongside Brian Daboll in New York. Kirk Ferentz hired his former running back in 2021. Betts had never had a college coaching job before coming back to Iowa.

Though my first guess are Tomlin, Gruden, McDaniel, and the other Harbaugh, just did a Google search and remember DeMeco Ryans is a Bama alum. However he would not leave the Texans for Bama?!?! There are plenty of more toxic situations in the NFL. Dark horse, Kevin O'Connell whose DC Brian Flores is looking at different pastures.

Honestly I always though Texas would try to poach Kyle Shanahan and A&M would try for Dan Campbell.
