I’m not sure a db is following a running back coach
I would assume this means Bailey is coming back
Might not be a popular take and I’ll miss some guys for sure, but most of these departures are a necessary ending. A few weeks ago, Bret said the players need to prove they’re still good enough to play here. IMO, there’s another 4-5 guys that need to portal unless their ultimate goal is to get a free education regardless of their role.
This offseason Illinois FB has more resources than ever before but so do many programs…prices will be much higher than last year. It’ll be interesting to see by how much we can lift the talent level. Hopefully by a lot.

I had the same doubt/thought, but KSU seemed like a random enough place for it to be a coincidence. You certainly seem to be more plugged in than me so defer to you, but I do recall hearing that BB has his ACs recruit regionally which doesn't necessarily mean their main recruiting contacts are their position coaches.
At this point, I wonder if it might have been easier to get a new defensive staff that can make adjustments to work with who we have.
We've seen some bright spots on defense in certain games and stretches when the playcalling was more aggressive and we didn't take an hour trying to substitute.

Then we lose an entire defensive staff, probably still all these transfers (which Brett told most/all to leave) and risk losing players like Beerman, Hankins, Everhart and the rest of the 20th ranked recruiting class who presumably really like the coaching staff. That is a huge huge risk you are taking when we have extremely talented youth ready to play with this coaching staff.

Bielema expects Scott and Bailey to return this season. They are working the numbers out before the Jan.14 deadline. That is why the talent has to improve so you won't have to continue to rely on 4th-5th years seniors to dominate your two deep roster.
Not worried about the defections. They had their reasons. Either Bret and staff told straight out that they would be recruited/portaled over or not guaranteed a starting spot or not worth the money….good luck and so long.
This year I see a lot of freshmen getting playing time. Especially on the defensive side. Glad Clark is coming back. Gives some strength to the def backfield. Get a healthy Bailey and X back we will be cooking with gas.
Eberhart and Hankins will play. I’m not sure we will have many other freshman playing

The "we didn't want him anyway" excuse is in full swing.
I'm optimistic we'll field a good team. But I have little doubt that more than a few of these players would have been valuable pieces.
I’m not exactly sure we want a bunch of freshman to have to play in the big ten… thought we learned that wasn’t a good strategy lol
It will be interesting because if the NIL deals are not legally binding than maybe a school could get out of paying an underperforming athlete.
A lot of schools make nil promises and the payments come up short. Miami is known for that
Some schools don’t pay all the agreed upon NIL .
