Our version of good last year and a dominant defense version of good are two totally opposite visions....purely MO.

What did McCullom bring that can't be replaced? To be clear, I'm not saying that the loss should be ignored, but the unit, in its entirety, was awful. After, I'm assuming, hours upon hours of viewing tape by Bret and Co, I'm really confident that this staff identified issues and will not leave themselves short with a unit this vital.

That front four made a really bad defensive backfield look even worse with their inability to pressure the QB without blitzing.

Not sure if you're a Bears fan, but their last three weeks of defense has looked like what we saw all year from our boys. We can't get to the QB, so we play zone, which drove people nuts. We couldn't stop teams on 3rd down, so we'd go man and our corners would consistently get beat underneath.

It all starts with that line and I have absolutely no problem with a hockey line change.
Why do you trust a staff that hasn’t led a good defense in 2+ years to be able to identify and correctly deploy its players?

I'm a bit disappointed. He was a true Soph that was getting bigger and stronger. All that investment gone....
Welcome to the new era of college football…that’s the reason am not impressed when a recruit states that they have X years of eligibility left, because you just never know how long they’re hanging around this days.

The only thing i can think of is that they have a couple of players lined up that's ready to sign.

I put this in the same category as
Bowick
Hood
Tomiwa
Neal

All were projected starters next year, and while we likely would have wanted to keep all of them, they are replaceable. I think we already upgraded the Bowick role potentially. Keep in mind they all have agents now that are shopping their services and it's in their best interests for them to switch schools for more money. None of these kids are likely NFL players, so you can't blame them for trying to maximize what they can get in college.

It makes you appreciate our retention last year!

All last off-season we heard about how great our veteran lines would be due to all the returning talent... It never materialized in games. More often than not, we won due to explosive plays in the passing game. Neither line was dominant... or really anything close to it.

If the program is going to go from good to great, they need to demand better.

Here is an interesting thing that i just thought of. Practically everyone here wanted the DC to leave at the end of the season, and yet, the DC stays and all the players are the ones gone.

How many sacks do you expect out of your nose guard? It’s not a position that stats reflect the value of a player…. Come on man lol

Just wait. lol. Can’t wait for people to tell me why the church of ladder day saints nose tackle whose been on mission for the last 2 years is a steal!

Can you upgrade this defense (to CFP level) without upgrading the DC?
