I might be new to this board but isn't this directly and am trying to understand before I get in trouble with admin. I looked back at the whole exchange with Bigcity and the mob that came after him and am curious? Are people upset that he was saying something unpopular? Just want to know what the rules of engagement are around here. bigcityillini was a little brash no doubt and had some hot takes. But his data/analysis was unreal and was professional level. Nobody actually could refute any of his data and then it turned into a mud flinging contest. Maybe I'm missing something as the new guy, but why wouldn't people want someone that has that skill to provide it? Maybe I'm the weird one but I enjoy reading all perspectives and forming my own opinion. If it's not like that on this board, please let me know so i don't post and upset the mean girls around here.

I think it's time to except the defensive front will be a pretty major weakness next season. However, if we get X back, we'll have a good team around those unproven pieces.

Other than quarterback, one positional weakness won't wreck your season if you're strong in all other areas.
You could be right but lets see how this thing plays out.

weak offensive line - no running game and your QB gets sacked
weak defensive line - opponents run all over you and no pass rush

I hope we are at least avg in both

I agree it's time we accept that. But are we sure we are strong in other areas?

QB - I feel good, but we have not seen him play on this level yet besides his early years at MSU. Feel great at RB and WR. TE is a weakness, we don't really have anyone there blocking wise, but we also don't use TE much. The OL is replacing 4 of 5 starters and wasn't particularly good last season already. I like some of the pieces, but we have not seen any of them on the line together.

DL - obviously a major issue. For OLB, outside of Barna, who do we really trust right now? Feels like we really need a difference maker there still. LB - is another area we were not good at last season and not really sure we improved at all. Kreutz and Beerman can't be the only answers there. I agree that I feel the best about DB on defense. But still that position group was not great last season and we are returning a lot of the same actors. I think Bailey, Clarke, and X are great. If we can get X back, then I'd be a bit more confident. Special teams - no punter right now, and the Kicker we just got doesn't have a lot of reps.

Overall, I hear you that one bad position group doesn't tank a team. But id argue we have more than one bad group right now. The whole front 7 is talent deficient.

And this is based on one good and 3 average D- linemen in a rotation scheme transferring out? Of course our coaching staff has no experience or expertise when it comes to both recruiting or developing D - linemen into top level players correct? If we hadn't had the most successful 5 year run in modern history you might have something. But with only one transfer portal period and the number of D - lineman that haven't signed @ more than 100, you might want to wait a week or so before jumping to conclusions.

The difference is that if you get the ball out quick and have really good skill position guys, you can work around the OLine.

Bad DLine and teams can just run the ball, drop back pass with no pressure.

I personally don’t see a ton of problems with our OLine. I think we’ll at minimum be average/good.

DLine however different story.
