Amen brother... The problem we currently have tho is that the young'ens around here have never witnessed a 0-0 tie with Northwestern... Have never witnessed an 0'fer season (yes entire seasons without a single win), never witnessed back-to-back-to-back seasons of really bad football.... All they have seen are 10 win, 9 win seasons with back to back bowl wins over SEC powerhouse (supposedly) teams... So they have expectations of Cignetti type progress and Cignetti type success... CFP's every year, Natty's... etc... Some of us however, are really proud for the first time in decades (repeat: DECADES) to have an AD, to have a coach, to have a program that can produce better than 0-0 ties, and better than 0'fer seasons, accompanied by multiple years of bowl games. Would I love to win a Natty before I leave this earth ? . . Sure !... Do I EXPECT to win a Natty before I go... No... Would I be happy with 8,9,10 win seasons back-to-back-to-back ? YBYSA...
I'm in this boat, right here! 50+ years of witnessing bad or, at best, mediocre football with a good season sprinkled in (remember before last year, only 4 seasons of 9+ wins since Illinois joined the B1G in 1953.) All the while thinking 'why can't a major institution like the University of Illinois at least put together consistent winning seasons?' Just WINNING seasons. Like Edgy, not expecting a Natty - would love to have one, sure, but not expecting it. All that said, I think the floor has been raised and instead of 6 wins being the floor, I'm now looking for a minimum of 8 year-in and year-out. In a pure rebuilding year, Ok, maybe 7 wins. But this AD, Coach and Staff have this program going in a different direction. Not Indiana-type direction (again, would be wonderful to see.) I've seen comments on here that we "don't want to be another Iowa." While I dislike them as much as anyone on this board, heck, give me what they've done over the past 25 years in a friggin' heartbeat. Yes, I am PROUD for the first time in a very long time! And, when I wear my Illini gear around the DFW area, I get a lot more "I - L - L "'s from people and conversation around athletics. It's pretty fun!

Another underwhelming transfer. Is Bret broke?

Assembling the most fierce division 2 defensive line in the nation.

Is he wrong though? Our defensive line at the moment is very underwhelming. We need to start stacking up on bodies fast and furious.
Let me know when the NCAA start playing regular season games in January - prior to the end of transfer season and prior to both spring practice and summer camp. Our rosters isn't complete and no one has every seen the transfers coming in play. The kid from Bowling Green only played 174 snaps last year but he had a 76 PFF which is materially higher than any player that transferred out.
