Why wouldn't it be the opposite?
Traditionally coaches have gone to the nfl to avoid recruiting. If it's increasingly transactional then doesn't it make it an easier transition from the NFL?

The modern NIL and transfer model seems to have created the need to re-recruit every single talented kid on the roster each year.
I assume if Ohio State wants you as a football coach you must be pretty good
I think Whittingham is the closest thing they could get to Jim Harbaugh. I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t get them right back to Harbaugh’s level
I'd be shocked if he's there in 2 years.
2 of his last 3 seasons in UT would be seen as failures at UM.

Consider what he did at Utah, even the past few years. With the Michigan $$$ I, unfortunately, think he’s a great hire for UM. the right guy in right environment.
To use another car analogy, at Utah he was driving a Hyundai and still competing at a high level. At Michigan he has a Lamborghini. He can accomplish more at Michigan

I mean, there was precisely one single thing Iowa was great at on offense, at that was the quality and utilization of the tight end. So if that's Ferentz, I'm all for it. Plus, anything that steals away from Iowa's TE game, I'm all for. Question will be though if he is able to recruit high quality TEs to a place who hasn't really used them as passcatchers from scratch, or whether those recruits were already attracted to Iowa because of how great the TE position has historically been there. Not saying that doesn't work hand in hand, but Ferentz doesn't strike me as the most inspiring recruiter and recruiting from the sub-basement isn't exactly the same as recruiting from the penthouse. That said, yeah, he did wonders at the TE position at Iowa and we would be very very fortunate to have him if he got us up and running there.
I get your point....I do think Whittingham is cut from a different cloth though - he isn't a RichRod for sure. In terms of style, demeanor, etc he is as close to a Big 10 coach out of central casting as you can get. 66 is not old and he still has gas in the tank. I will be shocked if he isn't highly successful.

Sure. Is it fair to say that he's facing a tougher conference, in a new recruting environment and has a rival that if he loses twice to his job will be in question?
He'll also be 68 in 2028. There's 2 active coaches 68 or older.
