Some of us objectively disagree that they were poached, rather than them being told they had to go and assisting them in that search.

And there it is officially … It wasn’t a well kept secret he was looking for an out and Bret was likely looking to make a change but needed to ensure his guy landed in a good spot (shoutout Chris Ash) … Wish Aaron the best …

Hence my comment the other day about who was and more so who wasn’t out on the road …

Now Bret … Time to cook … DC, RB, TE, ST …

I mean, with Discher maybe you have a point, but Henry took a demotion to go to a bigger program, so that's either a lateral move or step down. He's not going to have the responsibility there that he had here.
True.

I'm not surprised to see AH go and would have been 100% content with the news but his landing spot has me reconsidering. Got a feeling we're in the midst of a Wisconsin/Nebraska fan moment where their 'upgrades' went south. We’re celebrating a departure that better programs are viewing as an opportunity.

I'll probably reconsider once we have the new DC announced.

Bret is so good at this. What looks like a step-up or lateral move for Aaron but we all know what it is. Brilliant.

Bret takes care of his guys ... He called Shad and multiple other NFL teams and Aaron immediately has interviews ... Obviously there were some conversations with Chris Ash to ensure Aaron had a spot there as well ...

Bret couldn't come to an agreement on a reduced role with Discher so he reduced his buyout and put out multiple calls to other coaches and said nothing but the best about Discher and he lands on his feet as well in a great spot ...

If I was the one making hires ...

DC - Charlie Bullen
RB - Thomas Hammock
TE - Josh Stepp
STC - Ben Miller or Scott Fountain

If you can’t get Bullen I would go for Seth Wallace. To bad we didn’t go for LeVar Woods if we knew discher was leaving.

If Charlie comes back I’m assuming he would go back to coaching olb. So that would leave an opening a safety.

I think this is a great example of the echo chamber/reality gap in fanboards like Loyalty. Two of the board's problem children just got poached by top-tier programs, and instead of stopping to ask if we were wrong about them, we’re busy celebrating Bert’s 'brilliance.'

Similar to the "Tyler Underwood only has a job because of nepotism" discussion over the summer while he was simultaneously discovering and recruiting a future B1G POY candidate and lottery pick.

To be clear ... Both of these guys were given opportunities to seek new positions elsewhere within a certain time frame or Bret was going to move on himself ...

I think it's honestly pretty incredible how much Bret's word means around the NFL and CFB that he got guys who were on the outs with us positions at CFB contending teams ... It may not have worked out here but demotions/lateral moves to other teams could work out great for them ... And that is a brilliant move for Bret because it makes it look like these teams are coming to our program to poach ...

Don't forget who is at the helm and the $$ he has access too ...

Your point stands, but I think the same could be true for Discher as well. Was TE & ST coach here. Will coach just ST there.

Difference here is that you're keeping the head guy in charge, and he's the one allowing all this to happen.

If this had happened after a few down years in a row I'd be more concerned.

Should add this note ...

Very shortly after the season, Bret informed Discher he was only going to be coaching ST here next year if he remained on staff and Bret would be hiring a new TE coach ... They could not come to an agreement on a few things which ultimately led to Discher seeking new opportunities ...

Aaron Henry will never oversee the notre dame defense lol. They didn’t hire him because they think he has untapped potential as DC, they hired him because he can coach defensive backs. “Co-defensive coordinator”, yeah, sure lol.
