One thing we can agree on Bret is a man of his word. I thought he wasn’t going to replace Aaron Henry . Not only did Bret replace Henry but possibly his entire Defensive coaching staff. Wow !! I think the Indiana game and the success Indiana has had in a short period of time has lit a fire in Bret. I’m excited about the new Defense and next season

Well if we are interviewing Cooper the writing is on the wall for Archie. I don’t see us keep to line backer coaches. Will be interesting how the rest of the defensive staff is filled out.
What if I told You Bret was replacing everyone on his defensive coaching staff. What do you mean by everyone ?

Isn't there a benefit to being recruited by and familiarizing yourself with your future position coach whom you would interact with on a daily basis? It's great that we have lots of people who can sell the vision but part of it is starting to build the long term relationship.

I understand it's not always the position coach recruiting their own players, but I assumed that was the case most of the time. I could be wrong though
THANK YOU!!!!

First of all the 3-3-5 is not gimmick defense. Iowa State Under Matt Campbell and John Heacock ran the 3-3-5 for years with great success. Iowa State never had gigantic NT as you put it. Define a gigantic NT. When Tony Elliot was defensive coordinator at Nebraska and ran 3-3-5 Nebraska never had Gigantic NTs We have plenty of Defensive linemen on the Roster that are big enough to play the NT. In The 3-3-5 the Nose Tackle is always going to be a 0 technique lined up across from the center . We have guys on the roster that are more than capable to play Nose tackle
Just have Coach Hauck head up to see Coach Seaburg for a refresher ;)

Out of my depth on football, but i get a tad squeamish when i hear "that coach doesnt have to go on the road and recruit"...

Are there any high-level offensive or defensive coordinators who do not recruit at all? There might be a ton of them and I'm just uneducated lol.

Recruiters these days tend to be chosen by the size of their pocketbooks (and moustaches).

Do we expect he will have his key assistant(s) ready to announce at this press conference?
speaking as a regular fan , with no insider information, I will say no

Ancillary? I love it. And Coach is a great interviewer. But Coach, there is fly fishing in Illinois. Coach Hauck responded well. Illinois blue gills, crappie, trout, pike - watch out.
I love this hire. I don’t think fans get it. Bret is running the Football Program like an NFL team. I think fans are stuck in what used to be.This is 2026. This is not your father’s or grandfather’s college football. The head coach is super busy . Bret has to deal with NIL , players egos, Players Agents, Transfer Portal, Recruiting, Fundraising, Player acquisition, player retention, player development, player dismissal, Players academics, Players discipline, Institutional control, Alumni , Donors, Management of his assistant coaches, Hiring and Firing Football Program Staff and the Overall success of the Football Team. NFL teams have a head coach an Offensive Coordinator that’s an expert on his side of the ball and a defensive coordinator that’s an expert on his side of the ball. The head coach is the CEO that oversees everything for his vision of the football team . If the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator are not meeting the head coach’s expectations of what he wants his football team to be. They are dismissed . It’s like any other organization with a CEO and people underneath. College Football is multi billion dollar industry. Everyone is getting paid to do a Job. The Head Coach , Coordinators , Assistant Coaches, Players.
