Andrej high ankle sprain

Almost no way he plays tomorrow then, unless it was very mild, recovery can range 2-8 weeks
No idea if he plays tomorrow and honestly I probably lean towards that he doesn't. But I imagine it is a bit more on the mild side as high ankle sprains go since apparently he finished the MSU game after injuring it initially.

He was also the player made available for media at practice last Monday, which does not happen for players dealing with serious injuries.

I didn't say anything because it was so dumb (again)....but I called off work so I could watch Tuesday.
It's happened multiple times before (not just with Illinois but my other faves). I ignored it because I'm only a little 'stitious, and I can't stand that I have this much power and influence over my favorite teams outcomes.
So I just sat there shaking my head as we headed to overtime.

With that being said, I'm going to work on Sunday.

Don't beat yourself up, brother. I couldn't sleep last Saturday night in East Lansing, and during the entire 600-mile drive back to DC the following day ruminated about the fact that I chose, for the first time this season, not to wear my navy socks with the orange basketballs on them to the game in Breslin the night before. Doesn't matter that the socks I chose were also navy, and of more appropriate thickness for the frigid temps. Or that the snow would have ruined the navy suede retro Pumas, which are game day de rigeur wear, I eschewed in favor of effete LL Bean Maine Hunting Boots that simply screamed weakness to Spartan predators. All the orange I was wearing up top couldn't undo those unforced, nay willful, premeditated errors.

I get you my dude. The sense of power and responsibility for game outcome can be crushing. But this is the business we've chosen. We just gotta put it behind us and focus on the next one up. Keep chopping (fan) wood and good things will happen. I learned my lesson, and it's clear you've learned yours.

The proper socks are teed up for Sunday afternoon. I'll fight through the (TV) screens, and won't surrender open (disdainful) looks (from my significant other, miffed that I'm spending two Sunday afternoon hours on Valentine's Day weekend watching the Illini.) I'll finish strong at the rack in OT, rest assured. One possession (possessiveness?) at a time.

I don't recall the last time I went to an Illini basketball game that they lost. And I'm going Sunday. So you have nothing to fear.

This is where it is good to try rotating in/developing an extra player over the course of the season, instead of trying to force a 6 man rotation (7 man rotation at best) when key players have to be out for a stretch.

Just try to bring someone along into the schemes—Lee, Petro, Fagbemi, anyone, so they can give serviceable minutes and not have players gassed. As much as Wisconsin needs their star guards Boyd and Blackwell, etc. they seemed to use a longer bench than us and that may have played a role down the stretch, while we insisted on playing 6 the entire game.
This is something that’s concerned me over the season, that we haven’t tried developing a ninth person as a serviceable rotation player, at least so that they can step in for situations like this. High ankle sprains can take longer to recover from, as pointed out.

I’m not sure the lack of another serviceable rotation player being available is entirely on the coaches, however—I believe Jakstys would be getting more time if he did not have the season ending issues. I wish Petro had lived up to the hype—if he were breaking defenses down and looking like a star while giving Keaton a chance to rest, the ceiling/expectations for this team would be huge.

This is the conversation Brad needs to have with AS starting at :48. I want you to be a basketball player!!

"Game time decisions" are always shady. I know there's always potential for gamesmanship, but there is absolutely no way that they don't know at this point.

If Drej was noted as questionable on Tuesday to play, how could he not be ready five days later? At that point, the ankle injury was a lot worse than they let on, which is quite possible with him not being considered to play despite us only running with 6 and on fumes. If he's practiced full go this week, the pain is either there or it isn't.

With KB, it's pure pain tolerance if he's questionable and I suppose there could be some conditioning concerns. He's practiced this week, full tilt also, and they already have seen what the next day reaction is. If it was sore, inflamed , etc, he'd be out and he probably would have been held out any additional practices...and probably for the foreseeable future.

With the lack of a physically demanding practice today, there's no new knowledge that's going to be dropped on the docs by 11AM tomorrow.

If I had to wager a guess, KB would be in for sure because getting slapped on the wrist might hurt and it'd suck, but ultimately no damage done. It's just sore, but it does allow you to play some minutes, even if they're just spot minutes to allow for some rest.

With Drej, if the potential is even remotely there for further injury because there is still some pain, he'd be the no go. If you overcompensate for pain anywhere in the legs, you run the risk of hurting something else, which could be much more substantial. This goes back to the level of what the actual injury was on Tuesday. If he's not ready now, he won't be tomorrow

It's a game that we 100% need, but not enough to put our kids in harm's way, thus I'd say KB yes, Drej.....that's the one that worries me. Ankles are tricky.

That’s funny, and true. I remember 45 years ago i only applied to Illinois, and i asked my mom what if I didn’t get in. She said i could go to Indiana. Now I know why she said that. Lol.

Andrej high ankle sprain

I just messaged the same thing. With him, they know. It was either extremely mild and precautionary or it was an injury far more concerning than they let on.

If it's a high ankle sprain of significance....you're looking, at best, the first week of March. Those are extremely tricky and you can't mess with it. If you do too early, like you said....8 weeks.

The fact that he didn't move from the bench despite us running with 6, watching the tank empty out....it makes me think it's the worse of the two scenarios.
The positive take is that there's no way that Brad would use gamesmanship as a tactic for a 6 week injury. He'd come out and say he's done. If he was full go in practice....that's a good thing. I have no clue if that's the case.

If we lose our 3rd in a row with TSJ, KJ and Will in attendance I will revert back into full time panic mode
As the conversation after Duke last season, lose out and miss the tourney.

The lesson with these games (in the reg season at least) is that it's never as good as you think and also never as bad as you think.

Literally before Wisconsin there were comments claiming we were gonna win out. I, for one, had opposing reactions for writing a comment saying we should be satisfied if we go 3-1 the next four games (before Wisconsin).

There's always a fine line. Not too high, not too low.

"You're so deep" The big chill. It's a college basketaball game between two heated rivals. All of the other stuff is discussion. I just hope we don't winde up in a Norman Dale situation where Brad only plays 4 players at the end of the game and has to say "my team is on the floor." Hoosiers.

It'll depend on pain, but I think we see at worst 1/2 of our guys back tomorrow.
If Andre is not at least 90% i hope they let him heal. Also. I hope that Kyalan can play but if Kylan cant I pray BU plays someone at least 5 mintutes or so that can get into the lane and stay in front on D a little bit. That last game was as frustating i have seen since the 38 -35 PSU gme at home. No way we shouldve lost to the Badgers as well as Tomi was scoring and creating from the post. It cant all rest on Keaton tomorrow vs IU. We need to play a true guard besides him at some point some meaningful minutes if Adnre and Kylan cant go. The Mirk, T,Z,Jake, and Ben is likely the slowest line up ive ever seen on the court during key minutes in 50 years from an Illini coach when guys had no foul trouble.

Ha, I’m going too. Unfortunately that may cancel out your luck. I’m about 50-50 attending wins vs losses.

I haven’t felt full panic mode since the Mayer season. Last year after Duke was close, but I knew we’d beat Iowa.

Sounds bizarre, but if you read the Nebraska postgame thread, you’d think that qualified for a lot of people. Still insane to me how incensed certain folks were.

That was a problem. The only thing that I can think of from the Wisconsin game is that Petro and Lee are undersized guards and we were being absolutely demolished on the boards. Lee was in for one minute and was a -3. That's not ideal.

They're going to have to be able to find 3 or 4 minutes from each guy IMO. That assumes no Boswell. If course, he could play. You're right. It's a big time rival and we NEED the W.
