Illinois entered eight, no Buttress, in Hal Williams, according to Scoreboard.

One of the weaker fields of the year, soft start to a very difficult spring. We are absolutely trophy hunting here but this is gold and anything can happen so gotta take care of business. We've had some slowish starts this year, need to put our foot down right from the first nine. There are a few teams in the 50ish range in this tourney. Memphis has a really nice player that could push for the individual.

Shaky start for sure, Through everybody's first 9 holes we are sitting at -3, got last two holes or we would've been pretty far adrift after the frist 9 holes. The team is -4 over the last two holes. Gonna need to stay hot to keep up in round 1. We have the fire power to do it.

I hate these slow starts, but I'm pretty sure Illini will be fine.

me too, and they have heated up, If we can get Freddie or Trey in red numbers and keep all 4 counters under that would be a good first round and we will have not stubbed our toe. Ryan has a super clean bogey free -4 going.

Tied for first with SIU after round 1. Dane and Ryan leading the way, both T3 in the individual at -4. Should be in good position to separate from the pack in round 2 - Memphis is probably the biggest threat but are six strokes back.

you know when I think about this particular Illinois team I've always been more of the mindset that we have raised the floor and maybe lowered the ceiling a bit this year. and while you always want to raise your floor in golf, both as an individual and a team, you also want the ability to go crazy low on occasion.

I think Ryan being the only senior maybe was what was holding me back, he seems like a very nice player but maybe not quite on the level of Feags or Jackson or AdC so forth and so on. But all he has done is get better and better and he wasn't a slouch to start either. He had a great winter in amatuer events not to mention a really solid summer, 4th at Sunnehanna is no joke. I think this guy, along with Max obviously, is the key to reaching another level. He has just gotten better and better, year after year, another testimony to what this program is made of.

Max has not been the ace he appeared to be as a freshman. Struggling in this event...+5 with only 2 birdies thru 45 holes. Need him to find his A game.

Wow! 16 shot lead with about 6 holes to go.

I have to disagree here, he is currently ranked 11th in the nation for this season on Clippd, with 2 second places and a 5th in 4 events(18 in the other). Last year as a sophmore was all Big-10 and honarable mention all-American and had the 10th best scoring average in the history of the program while advancing to the final round of the NCAA as an individual. Also his WAGR is 24th. This guy is an absolute stud. Just having an off tourney, which in golf happens.

Playoff or co-champ for Ryan?
Looks like co-champ:

Congrats to Ryan, always good to get a win. Remember that he finished 2nd and 8th in two amateur tournaments over the break, so he's getting hot at the right time! Also top tens for Dane (T4) and Jake (solo 8th). Hoping that Jake is getting back to form like last spring, could make for some interesting roster decisions.

And congrats to the team, 15-stroke victory! Great tune up leading into Vegas, which will probably be the toughest event on the calendar.

Great effort all around for the team, everybody counted at least once and we never counted a score over par! Without our number 1 playing well at all we just shot -31 under and won by 15 strokes. Also, Ryan with a massive day for him and his PGA U hopes. This will get him in the top 20 I believe. He has a lot of work to get korn ferry status, but that top 20 gives him guaranteed status on a tour for next year.

On to Southern Highlands in 2 weeks with just an absolutely loaded field, UVA, Auburn, Texas, Peperdine, Florida, Oklahoma etc. gonna be a massive one. https://scoreboard.clippd.com/ranki...nder=Men&division=NCAA+Division+I&season=2026

Southern Highlands starts Sunday. Scoreboard. Gonna need Max.

Just curious: do Illini fly out tomorrow, practice Saturday or what? Anybody know? Thanks.
