Gonna cost a lot of money to bring back all the juniors who are looking at the last big and/or biggest paydays they're likely to see the rest of their lives. Don't forget that. I definitely expect some turnover even if it'd be great to bring everyone back. No one faulted Coleman for chasing it a couple years ago.....JMO it's gonna happen with at least one of our current guys as well.

The priority guy to bring back is the non-junior who is going to cost a ton

I won't judge Keaton one way or the other. What an incredible freshman for our Illini! Truly enjoyed watching him and this team. But I do judge all the comments about money. Our world has become all about money versus so many other things that are more important. Don't get me wrong, making money to provide for your family, security, etc. is important; however, if we're talking millions of dollars no matter what, I have to say, I miss the days of culture, hard work, loyalty, companionship, life long relationships, etc. Screw this world of throwing millions at kids (26 years old is when the brain is fully developed). Memories surrounded by good people is better than all of it. Going to miss Keaton! Very proud of this team and looking forward to the next team under this leadership! ILL
SPOT ON AND THANK YOU. 🙏

Stoj was very impressive in the tournament. I’d imagine both sides are open to a reunion at this point, but the money has to make sense. Need a guard that’s a threat from deep but can also get inside the arc and cause defenses to break down from there.

I don't want to be naive about the importance of money to the ego, but is money really a main factor for Adrej? Or is it only about development for the NBA and feeling good about the program? Money isn't an issue, I assume, for him.

That’s not how this works. It’s never just plug and play, lose and replace.

Yes we’re losing two really good guards, but now Mirkovic / Stojakovic / Tomislav will all have more opportunity and be more featured. Hence, their production will receive an uptick.

A very talented freshman like Coleman starting is not going to devalue our program. Doesn’t hurt that we’ve produced 3 freshman first round picks in last TWO seasons.
I think the top programs and recruiters replace guys like Bozwell and Keaton as a pair often. I expect Bama, Duke. Houston and Ark along others to do exactly that. Lets see where we are next fall. Plus people just writing off Morillo to be behind Coleman is a bit much. Is Coleman playing on team USA in the World Summit like Morrillo will, Mirk did, the Boozers, Sarr and many high end guys are n did. I think Morrillo is being undervalued.

If we add a guy or two like Juke . Harralson or others that are elite Indy has mentioned i dont think Coleman or Morillo will just be given that role over someone of that caliber. I also think 2 players like that while not individually as good as Wagler, as a pair may be as good as a pair.

Great season
Thank you coaches and team.
Let's build a freaking powerhouse and be in position to contend every year.

Need to retain...

Andrej
Mirk
Ivicic ×2

And build from there

As it stands, I figure it will actually be pretty tough to replace Ben in his current role.
Not sure where we stand, but this guy’s been said to be a candidate for a few months:

In order
1) bring back Mirk
2) bring back Stoj
3) bring back twins. If Z wants to go start somewhere then that’s fine but definitely tomi. This gives you a good veteran returning core.
4) find a senior point guard from a high major (explosive athlete/steady ball handler/set up man)
5) find two new role players from mid majors to replace Humichrous and Davis (whom I assume goes to start somewhere)

Veteran PG
Stoj
Mid major wing (shooting/defense)
Mirk
Tomi

Coleman
Other mid major wing (shooting/effort/hustle)
Z

Morillo/Brown/L. Davis/any other current player that wants to stay
Staff is aiming MUCH higher than mid major players to round out the roster. And Quentin will start. Regardless, next year's roster will be loaded.

If you watch the highlights this is the most Tyler Underwood player in the universe.

Yaxel was a mid-major player. As were JT Toppin and Joshua Jefferson for the record, to round out the All-Americans who had been transfers.

I see Quentin as a sixth man but with a chance for a big role. Look at McKenney on Michigan.

Mid major doesn’t mean bad. Good players move from mid major to high major every year.

Go to the league and get paid KW

You’re going to make millions once you get to the NBA. Always has been the case, and always will be. It’s the most competitive, popular league in North American sports (outside of the NFL).

KW is going to be a top 7 pick, and deserves every penny he gets.

We did not expect Keaton to be this good. Also. What makes you think that Coleman is better than Morrillo. I dont mind if Coleman earns it but we need to try and find someone more proven like the All ACC guards Blackwell or a player like that. I would prefer not to bet the success of being a top tier program of an inproven freshman. If we have the cash i dont think the staff plans to either. Mivhigan will likely win it all and they diid it by bringing in Yaxel, Mara, Rez as the top players as the key guys. I hope we do too. If a freshman pops again thats awesome but i hope the go after 2 transfers that they hope to start and will at least replace Boz and Wagler as a duo. Thats what we need to win it all.
100% the question of the day….people always seem to overly fall in love with the new shiny things….

Michigan is staring at what is likely the consensus most talented backcourt in America next season with McCoy and McKenney (I'm assuming Mckenney enters in a much less loaded 27 NBA draft)

Illinois has to grab a proven guard stud with size aside Coleman to level up and compete with that.

Based on what I’m hearing …

Next years roster has a real chance to be BETTER than this years roster …

If we can get the effort like we did this year on the boards, with some better pure shooting...we can easily be back in contention for a third weekend tourney basketball again.

I mean, we made the Final Four not shooting well, which is a testament to the grit of the current roster. We were a few missed shots from making title game this year.

So excited for Fall Football and Basketball. Things keep looking up.

I dont care where they are from. Do younthink the staff does?. We have had a damn good mid major in Domask and Id dont consider UAB as a power conference where Yaxel played. There are good players everywhere. There are more in power 5 of course but Purdue, Iowa, Michigan, Wisc and others have had some studs from mid majors. If they feel there is a stud from Europe or anywhere BU will add them

Now let’s do the list of mid majors who didn’t work out
lol well yes obviously the goal isn’t to recruit a mid major that doesn’t work out. You dismissed out of hand the notion of bringing in guys that are ready to move up a level.

#849
Haven't really heard any mention of Europeans...are we interested in anyone

Yeah, that was a bit of a strange comment. He got the hard working points two years ago, but he has had two injured seasons, where I am sure he worked on his shot.

I would expect his shot to be much improved. How good? That is impossible for those of us on the outside to say, but I would anticipate better than two years ago.
It became more mental than physical with Ty’s jumper- I mean in HS he absolutely shot jumpers and made them. He’s not going to be a high volume three point shooter I’m sure but we don’t need him to be
