Does this mean it's a done deal and he's gone? It would seem so.
I mean it would be really weird now if he didn't leave.
Preferably not upside-down
That would be bad.Preferably not upside-down
UNC?I wouldn't be surprised if BU adds another two-year type deal with at least one more top or up and coming program.
That would be awesome....stay away from MSG...we haven't played well there.UNC?
Come back to the Palaestra! That would be awesome....stay away from MSG...we haven't played well there.
Are they top program or up and coming?UNC?

So winning the tip didn't lead to us winning the game?

It could mean an extra possession. If the team that wins the opening tip also gets the last jump ball possesison they get one more possession. You cant get that if you dont win the opening tip.In a regulation game, we are guaranteed to get the ball back, so winning the tip really doesn't mean anything. In OT, you probably won't get the possession arrow to come back your way, so it does mean something.
It feels like one of those, if you're sweating the first possession that bad, you've already lost, statistics.Jump ball win % by player is a trackable stat on Kenpom if anyone is paying for the premium and wants to look it up.
Winning the tip = 1/2 possession with alternating possessions on jump balls. It matters, but so little as to not really matter. KenPom had a piece on it sometime this year.In a regulation game, we are guaranteed to get the ball back, so winning the tip really doesn't mean anything. In OT, you probably won't get the possession arrow to come back your way, so it does mean something.
Just lean into at this point and make it a bit. That would be bad.
Via Kenpom: Jump Ball Rank:Yeah, I was hoping someone with premium would have posted it, or that I could find it somewhere else online, but this was the best I was able to find. Confirms that as of February 11, Tomi was not in the top 10 or bottom 10 of this stat, meaning he was winning the tip at least 30% of the time.
How far does that data go back? Didn't Nnanna Egwu famously like never lose a tip?Via Kenpom: Jump Ball Rank:
Big Z: 20-6 overall, #8 in country
Tomi: 28-35 overall, #388 in country
Are those all time stats? There were not that many tips this season. And yeah, Tomi is not amazing at them but 44.4% isn't terrible. Over the course of one season the difference between .444 and .500 is about two tips. Just seems like this is not a big deal. At the end of the day we're talking about a single play that might result in one team getting one additional possession (or it might not!). The idea that it's worth changing the starting lineup based on that seems nutty to me.Via Kenpom: Jump Ball Rank:

Unfortunately only back to 2024 on kenpom. We'd need to go back to game logs to see anyone's prior performance. How far does that data go back? Didn't Nnanna Egwu famously like never lose a tip?
Yes, those are the all-time stats. Last season only:Are those all time stats? There were not that many tips this season. And yeah, Tomi is not amazing at them but 44.4% isn't terrible. It is a bit at this point.Just lean into at this point and make it a bit.
Makes sense, generally it means they have the taller or significantly more athletic big. That said, tip off percentage is worth significantly significantly less than face off win percentage in hockey and statistically speaking there is extremely minimal positive correlation between face off win percentage and scoring goals and winning games. It used to be one of the prime valued metrics in hockey before it was completely debunked. So for basketball, it's almost completely insignificant especially with the possession arrow.FWIW - There is some recent data that shows the team that wins the tip off, wins the game about 52 or 53% of the time.
