Agreed, and I guess this sort of makes sense given that at the time of the rebrand, basketball at least still had a respectable "modern" history on which to look back, while football was much easier to give over to a "burn it all down" approach. Not to use one of the more overused words in these discussions, but our MT Era rebrand really did wreak of *insecurity*, as it totally gave off the vibe of "We don't really like ourselves, so we're just going to totally change our look to something 'cool!'"

Of course ... even if was cool for any short period of time, it certainly is not now.
Put me in this camp, and I posted something similar during the season when I was watching an OSU game on TV. Other than the incredibly tired "washed out" wood look that I HATE about as much as possible (seriously, a more yellow / classic wood looks so much classier and fits our more retro style ... this should be fixed ASAP at SFC!), I love what OSU did with their court this year, and I think we should follow suit:
1. Script Illinois at center court. If we want to keep the state outline, fine ... I don't really care either way, TBH.
2. "FIGHTING ILLINI" in the Flyin' Illini uniform font on both base lines. We obviously wouldn't use this exact font and you can ignore the other elements of the court, but a base line setup like this again would be good:
My best attempt! Please excuse the following:
(A) The arched "FIGHTING." It was so hard for me to find the Flyin' Illini font where the "FIGHTING" part wasn't arched, lol.
(B) The washed out court color ... again, I hate it. I also hate the even more washed out look of inside the three-point line ... just put a darker (navy) line and have both sides be the same color, this looks so stupid and gimmicky. Give me a more traditional court like the photo above, and this court is perfect in my eyes!
