Illini Basketball Uniforms

Have you bought yet
March Madness Illinois GIF

I just put the order in 🤠

David joins Deron (Orange FI) & Ayo (White Script) in my jersey collection…

Just need one more to complete the current rotation 🤔

For some reason, football seems to have a stronger tie to the rebrand font than basketball. My white whale remains getting the number font off the otherwise very strong FB uniforms.

The Script does have one true application weakness: end zones and baselines. On baselines you can divide things up on either side of the basket, but we need a solution for what can go in the end zones, I’m genuinely empty-handed at the moment.
How about Just nine diagonal lines drawn at a 67 degree angle? /s

Agreed, and I guess this sort of makes sense given that at the time of the rebrand, basketball at least still had a respectable "modern" history on which to look back, while football was much easier to give over to a "burn it all down" approach. Not to use one of the more overused words in these discussions, but our MT Era rebrand really did wreak of *insecurity*, as it totally gave off the vibe of "We don't really like ourselves, so we're just going to totally change our look to something 'cool!'" :ROFLMAO: Of course ... even if was cool for any short period of time, it certainly is not now.

I was thinking in terms of a court it would be cool to have the script font as the center court logo (similar to OSU's new alternate court) with a Flying Illini block font on the baselines. That way it incorporates both the script and Flying Illini into the court, which I'm hoping will be our base uniforms moving forward. Tried to make a mock up on Chat GPT (not Photoshop inclined) but couldn't get it the way I wanted.

Put me in this camp, and I posted something similar during the season when I was watching an OSU game on TV. Other than the incredibly tired "washed out" wood look that I HATE about as much as possible (seriously, a more yellow / classic wood looks so much classier and fits our more retro style ... this should be fixed ASAP at SFC!), I love what OSU did with their court this year, and I think we should follow suit:

1. Script Illinois at center court. If we want to keep the state outline, fine ... I don't really care either way, TBH.
2. "FIGHTING ILLINI" in the Flyin' Illini uniform font on both base lines. We obviously wouldn't use this exact font and you can ignore the other elements of the court, but a base line setup like this again would be good:

My best attempt! Please excuse the following:

(A) The arched "FIGHTING." It was so hard for me to find the Flyin' Illini font where the "FIGHTING" part wasn't arched, lol.
(B) The washed out court color ... again, I hate it. I also hate the even more washed out look of inside the three-point line ... just put a darker (navy) line and have both sides be the same color, this looks so stupid and gimmicky. Give me a more traditional court like the photo above, and this court is perfect in my eyes!

I like that a lot, Fighter!! Perfect-o!

Now if we could just get State Farm not to insist on a Red Logo. Yeah, I know…I’m being petty and if you squint it almost looks orange….kinda. But I mean, that would just be SO much better if that was either orange or navy.

The more blue on the court, the better. 05 court with script at center court would be nice.

I like the idea of the script logo at mid-court.

I've never been crazy about the state outline with the Block I combination, on the basketball floor or football field. It always looks off-center or asymmetrical in some way that just looks a little off. But in this example, it doesn't look bad at all.

Changing the FIGHTING ILLINI font on the baselines is a must-do, in my mind! We've pretty much eliminated the rebrand font from the uniforms let's keep going until it's just a distant memory.
