To be fair, Kerr would depart because his contract is expiring and the sides agreed to not renew or extend, correct?
I wouldn’t see it as a “letting go”, but more as a “mutual parting of ways”.
However you’d like to phrase it …

YepIf a coach leaves in the next few weeks, do players who have signed have the ability to hit the market?
I read they have a 15 day window to enter the transfer portal, starting 5 days after the next coach is hired. If the next coach isn't hired within a certain amount of time, the portal opens but I'm not sure the exact timing of that one.If a coach leaves in the next few weeks, do players who have signed have the ability to hit the market?
I can't think of anythingNot a coaching change but I have no idea what Marty Simmons has done to deserve a contract extension: https://eiupanthers.com/news/2026/4/23/general-simmons-bennett-sign-contract-extensions.aspx

I like that they have to squirm until the NBA season is over.
It would have been simpler to just say "I'm waiting until after the NBA season is over" to see if my dream job opens up. And barring that, my advisors tell me I can use that process as leverage to extract better terms..
Either way, can't be real comforting to Michigan administrators, fans or recruits...![]()

Is that an acceptable descriptive term now? Can we all start using that in front of our names? Asking for a friend.>>>>After guiding the Iowa State men's basketball team to its third Sweet 16 appearance in five years, head men's basketball coach T.J. Otzelbergerhas agreed to a new contract that will keep him leading the Cyclone program through June 30, 2036 and increase his salary to $6 million annually, Endowed Cyclone Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard announced today.>>>
If the donation was larger, they could have started the last clause differently ...

NBA is an easier gig in some ways, particularly that you get an off-season... but the difference a good coach can make is diminished, and you have a lot less control over the level of talent at your disposal. If I am Dusty May
- class organization like Warriors even if they are in rebuild - YES
