Bearing in mind position-less basketball, the current projected roster looks something like this:

1-2: Vaaks, Coleman, Morillo, and Brown. plus Fagbemi

3: Andrez, J Davis, and Zens

4/5: Mirk, Jakstys, L Davis

5: Tomi, Z

That looks to me like pretty good guard and wing depth. I would be looking for a another big that can play center as a depth piece.

As for "9th man", that might be between Zens and Brown. Zens look like he could potentially play multiple roles.

The other Davis is a player with an interesting skill set that we haven't really talked about much. He won't redshirt if the new 5 year age based model passes.
100% agree and man I love the look of this team, a bunch of large men that can shoot and handle. In the spirit of position-less ball, I'd just add that Morillo has the size/grit to fill in at the 3 and Mirk played really well as essentially our 2nd ball handler.

RE other Davis I think its all on where Jakstys is health wise. Without seeing him he's at least another large body if it's a Chris Bosh situation.

The romancing of Ty’s performance and abilities from 3 yrs ago on this thread are at cottage cheese levels!

He was probably offered a 9th man and didn’t want it. He got a degree and landed somewhere else where he’ll get PT. Great for him. Let it go.
Have you ever tried Mikes Hot Honey in your cottage cheese?

Vaaks is the only guard that isn't a freshman.

Then if Stojakovic comes off the court you bring a guy that's very fundamentally sound but can't slide his feet with guards or chase guys around screens.

If that's your group than Coleman and Morillo better be ready to defend at a high level as freshman because Stojakovic can't be your only perimeter defender.

You're making a very personal attack on WC. Shouldn't be needed to make an argument or your point.

Ok, I'll just say it: you guys are being wimps.

I said his argument was lame and I stand by that. Don't think that's remotely harsh to say. Certainly not a "very personal attack"... sheesh.

I see a lot of folks wanting to make next year's team better. To insure against major injuries or illnesses at important player positions. Not sure anyone has said that adding a 9th (or 10th) man will make the team "truly great." And "polluting" the thread? "Redundant walls of texts"? Really??? Just ignore WC's texts if they bother you so much.

Why am I invited to ignore his messages and you guys can't do the same with mine?

When someone continually posts multiple sprawling, essay-style messages that basically say the same thing over and over, it makes the forum difficult to read/ingest. Hence, redundant and polluting fits perfectly here.

So, what box does “9th Man” take on our Loyalty Bingo Card? And how is “Cottage Cheese” not already on here?

I'm old enough to remember when Andrej Stojakovic was not considered a good defender.

We should really reach out to the staff that helped with his defensive development to see if they can work with our guys.

This is pretty darn good. The only thing I would differ on is removing the dumbfounded Bruce gif with a denzel and maybe some reference to pizza hut parking lot instead of clownzo since he's long gone.

You (and some other glass-half-full people) are being touchy about respectful opinions on what could improve the team, as if that's some attack on you or the staff when it isn't. I thought pointing out the insults rather than responding in kind would cool things off a bit, but I guess you're going to double down on them. Oh well. That's the internet for you. Can't we save the insults for our rivals?

Also, if you hadn't kept misrepresenting my comments, I wouldn't have repeated myself.

I mean bottom line here is I’m trusting the D1 coaching staff that just took us to a final four over wc_illini from the message board. It’s all it boils down to, really.

You say we need another player to be truly great? I don’t agree with that opinion and your continued lengthy essay style posts that reiterate the same lame points over and over and over again while ignoring our final four team didn’t even have a 9th man isnt going to convince me otherwise. At this point you are just polluting the thread with redundant walls of text that say the same thing as the last.

Say we add a mid major guard, and Coleman or Morillo opts out of his LOI (easy to do nowadays and insiders have said this would happen). How do you feel about the team then?
Well said.

Has Jakstys gotten strong enough to be an emergency 5 in the BT?

Thank you for saying this! I couldn't agree with you more.

He committed to Clemson yesterday
Where he has a great chance to start, and if not, will certainly be the first big guy off the bench. Clemson's starting Center is recovering from an ACL injury he suffered in March. Big opportunity for minutes in a solid program.

Again, most of these guys are looking for significant PT.

Z is going to play alongside Tomi quite a bit, and I'm not sure why it is hard to see that arrangement being effective. Tomi is extremely versatile on offense, and Z doesn't really like to hang out in the paint on that end anyway. They didn't have to do it much last year, because Ben was so effective defensively, but the staff seems to be very confident it will work. I don't think Z would have stayed if he thought he was only going to average 17 minutes a game again.

Not much going on this week so far:

Ryan Soulis (F, Columbia) commits to Northwestern
Will Sydnor (F, Manhattan) commits to Rutgers

Agree.

I hope people don't take this the wrong way, because I love Ty, and really respect the good attitude and team support he gave the last two years. But I have never seen such elevation on this site for someone who has not played a minute in two seasons.

While he was good three seasons ago, our team dynamic and roster construction is totally different from when Ty started. And he could not shoot back then and I have seen nothing here to indicate that has changed, other than blind hope.
Agree on Rodgers but another player the board loved but didn't contribute was Hutcherson
