Chicago Cubs 2026

Question on these contracts for the 2027 season. If there's a strike (I'm sure we all know that, at least, part of the season will be washed away)......is that portion of the contract void if there's no baseball? In Maton's case, is what he's owed in 2027 washed away(or prorated) and we move right to the club option in 2028? For the free agents, I know they can't sign contracts, so they're screwed. How about guys like Soto, Ohtani, etc.? Are they just out $70M if the season gets washed away completely?
And I doubt if they will, but what if they decided on a hard cap? Do the Dodgers have to get rid of guys? :ROFLMAO:

The Dodgers, Mets, Yankees, Padres, Phillies and Blue Jays(is that all over them way over?).....when this is all said and done are either going to be punished retroactively or they'll continue to be at a competitive advantage until those contracts expire.

If they get rid of the ability to defer contracts, the Dodgers would be screwed given all of the money that they have spread out over the next 15 years. That said, you can't penalize them after the fact when they've been playing by the rules and you can't violate contractual agreements. I guess you could keep a team that's over the cap from signing free agents until they're under???? That would work, especially if you raise the salary floor. It would give every team a crack at free agency, raise the salaries of the lower end free agents, but severely cap the stars.

This is going to be a mess. There's absolutely no way that the Union/Players Association is going to go for ANY of this. Conversely, the competitive disadvantage that's occuring with about 7-10 teams can't continue either.

It's going to get ugly over the winter. When paychecks start being missed and games are removed from the schedule is when the collars on both sides get tight. Until then, it's all posturing and tough talk.

Is Assad still being stretched out in Iowa? He's got to do better than this.
He got torched by the Dodgers in April and gave up a solo homer to the White Sox. Otherwise, he's been good. Agreed, he can't be any worse than Wicks.
