Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread

USC has a better roster than Illinois and likely the best roster in the big ten. Doesn’t mean they’ll finish ahead of us, but fair to point it out.

If Illinois had gotten Andrej, Tomislav, Mirkovic, Jake, and Z in the portal this year, you would not be saying this.
That's a good way to put it.

Purdue gotta be somewhere in that third.
I'm honestly kind of uncomfortable with how much I'm rooting for Purdue next year. They are the true spirit of college basketball, and the way that experiment goes positive or negative will serve as a lesson to everyone else.

I want the nation, Brad included, to see that development and cultural continuity works.

As much as I despise Izzo on game day......he's recruit and develop within guy as well. It does still work.

This is an absurd take.

Yep and of those five, it's possible only three of them start, prob 4 though IMO, but regardless we're gonna have a great starting 5 AND a great bench

Does anyone here, insiders included, know what skills and potential Landon Davis brings to the team? There has to be a reason BU signed him. He has some size, and if he can shoot and play tough then he can bring future value to the table. If he can move, he has a future in the B1G and at Illinois. However, there has been so much written here about others that caused any legitimate reports/discussion of Landon Davis to be lost. Same for Fagbemi but we have seen him play. Any input?

You beat me to it. Wisconsin is the same way.

Wasn't it Eddie Johnson, during the Final Four, who made a point that we need to transfer our success into keeping the top kids(especially the CPL kids) home?

I get his sentiment, but the top player in 2026 looks like he'd be locked in the highly touted battle for the coveted 9th man position. Plenty of competition there.

Eddie’s one if my all time favorites. But i don’t think he’s up on H.S. Basketball in the age of prep schools. Most of the top kids don’t finish their Sr year of HS in the state.

Lincoln is rated almost the same as a different freshman last year. Keaton wagler. Don’t doubt our coaches abilities Lincoln could turn out to be a hell of a player

Right now, I think:

1) Illinois
2) Michigan
3) Michigan State

GAP

4) USC

GAP

5) Nebraska
6) Indiana
7) Iowa

Why is everyone so high on Michigan? Yes, Dusty May is an excellent coach, but you don’t just replace Yaxel, Morez and Mara. That frontcourt was special.

I think they will be good but a big step down from last year. Still have a ton of talent.

USC probably has a better roster than Michigan State but I trust Izzo way more than Muss.

As far as Purdue goes, I could see them being good, but not a fan of the roster. Painter is a world class coach though.
