Bret has mentioned that if someone has a season-ending injury there is some version of an NCAA rule that allows them to bring in another body to go past the "roster limit". So, if someone has a significant injury in June-July conditioning, you may hear of someone unexpected showing up for the start of pre-season camp in August. I would think it would be a JUCO guy, or a last-minute grad-transfer from a lower level.

Never say never with Bret. I would think they have a small list to still call on.

And then once the portal comes around at the end of the 2026 season, they then whittle things back down to the roster limit or take less guys in the portal or recruiting class based on how things progress with the current roster.

We have 1 more commit that will announce soon

Yes ... Any major injury (season ending) will open up a roster spot ... Believe the season ending injuries that are public are currently Cam Brooks, Tanner Hollinger, Grant Smith and Eric Gayle (hopefully I have that list right) ... So that allows for up to 4 new additions to be made to the roster ...

I won't get into specifics of the kid joining the program other than it's a local kid ...
Those 4 names were all mentioned last week by Bret at the Wrigley press availability, you are correct.

Smith is out for this year as well? Hopefully all these guys are back sooner than later as I think all 4 could be surprise contributors at some point (Especially Brooks).

I just assumed he was headed to a G5 school. This kid is a good player, I'm shocked he was only headed to a D2 school. This is a nice add. He may never play a down, but never know what he can turn into once he is only focusing on football in college. Maybe end up at another position as well.

Big athlete who played 3 sports in hs. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him at te

his folks can leave the house at 10:30 for an 11:00 game

I hope the lad is more than just an arm to throw to receivers at practice

with this add, I assume the Smith lad and the Newton lad are both being tried at other spots on the field

and, he makes my all name team
Smith was at TE all spring. Newton on the other hand, I'm guessing may be moving to another spot. No word there yet.

I'm very happy to see this commitment from Tolono. When I was a little boy, I can remember before there was any Unity, Tolono High played 6-man football and the star was John "Rocky" Ryan. He went on to star for the Illini, and even had a patchy NFL career.

Props. Never thought I would write this on an Illini site: Athens 4ever.
UGA campus and campus town area today reminds of the U of I when I arrived as a freshman in 1970. Absolutely awesome.
