Yeah, this whole modify Kirby Ave thing is kind of nuts. Let's put it to bed once and for all.I cant forsee any problems with that and I'm sure the City of Champaign would love it too.
First, we are talking about at most 10? days a year if you really squint an imagine how many large events could be at the stadium. Second, a tunnel is not only expensive it is bad urban design. The slope of a tunnel would have to start all they way back at at First and go to Forth. The utilities that invariably run under the road would need relocation. You'd likely need to rip up every tree on both sides of the street to excavate that far. Walking adjacent to it would not be pleasant. The driveways to State Farm Center and the small lots on the south end of the stadium would no longer have access to Kirby because the grades would not match.
And finally, the new scoreboard isn't going anywhere for years. So expanding the footprint south at its tightest point is very likely not even necessary.
