Rehab, get healthy, formally call it quits and head back here and start a career as an assistant.
Hate to read this. I don't know any of the laws/rules of the NIL contracts these days, but I would love to see Illinois offer him a spot on the team. Let him be a great teammate as he recovers and rehabs. I don't care if he even picks up a basketball, to me he has earned his right to a spot. Make up a "special assistant" position,if no spots left on the roster. Do what is needed to let this young man come back home, graduate with his teammates, and support of the University as he recovers from what has to be a incredibly tough time. I understand some people may not agree because he left, people like Ty Rodgers never truly leave. For those who don't think he deserves it out of heart, maybe you could focus on how incredible it would be and look for the University to do so as far as the PR part. I would have him come back and start what could be a career at the university. Anyways, just my opinion, but certainly hate to hear this news of another tough break for the young man.

NIL contracts can vary depending on the athlete and institution. They are binding legal contracts, so they often can't be simply voided due to injury. If some of his money is tied to "marketability", it could have an effect on his take. He is likely bound to Boise, unless he wants to forfeit whatever guarantees he was given. Probably best to take the money for now. Might be the best job he ever has...
Leon Rice is also a heck of a coach (winningest coach in Boise St. history; helped Mark Few build up Gonzaga in the early 2000's), and can teach him a lot. If he decides to pursue coaching, it never hurts to see the game from the perspective of other coaching staffs.
Great points! Like I said , I know there are rules/laws I am unaware of and uneducated on. I just wish the best for the guy and hope he can somehow "come back home". Which you clearly show a path he could still make his way back and also have the experience and knowledge of another upper level coach. Honestly, he just seems like a genuinely good person who deserves a break. I really do hope he achieves great things. One thing I do believe is, if there is a way our head coach or AD can help, they will.

Neither article said whether the injured knee is the same one he already had surgery on.
As I recollect, he had surgery, came back, then re-injured the same knee.

Terrible news and I feel sorry for him. Hope recovery goes well and fast.

Brad doesn’t leave roster spots open for nostalgic feel-goodery. He generally leaves one open for strategic mid-season recruiting efforts — either someone who can help the team in some capacity or, in the Toni Bilic case, as a favor to the agent who can help secure more desirable recruits in the future.
