This EIU talk is confusing to me. I feel like they’re are neither underachieving nor overachieving. I feel like they’re exactly what they are supposed to be.

If you bring in a new guy, he’s probably not gonna do better. He’s probably not even gonna do the same.

Why am I wrong?

Retaining him really surprised me. They need to get a younger, energetic, now assistant coach somewhere that needs a first time head coaching gig who can bring excitement as well as recruiting buzz. Just my opinion but I think it would have energized the fan base.

I understand that thought process, and if you can do that I think you absolutely do. I just don’t know if young up and comer is gonna risk his career on Eastern

EIU is a dumpster fire. You are telling your fan base that the athletic department doesn’t care about basketball. Simmons has been at EIU for 5 years and hasn't had a winning season period. Simmons has coached at the D1 level for 16 years and has never made the NCAA TOURNAMENT, NO CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS. Tom Michael needs to be ashamed of himself. You typically give a coach 5 years to turn a program around. There are plenty of DIV2, DIV3 or JUCO coaches who would love the opportunity to coach EIU. That coach would leave after have one good year with a conference title or an NCAA TOURNAMENT bid. There are a whole lot of DIV 1 programs in the state of Illinois and 95% are terrible.

I don't know if a young energetic assistant coach would necessarily be the best option. It wouldn't be the worst thing thing to get a head coach on the younger side, even if it's not at the D-I level. When they hired Jay Spoonhour, he was 41. Marty was 57 when he was hired. I'd be fine with going the route of a Jay Spoonhour type of coach to replace Marty.

Seems pretty unfair to Kidd. The GM absolutely torpedoes his team by sending the team's franchise player to LA for much less value than he's worth. And Kidd is somehow supposed to coach up what's left. On the bright side for Kidd, someone's bound to hire him eventually.
Kidd was a horrible in game coach. Most of the time it was Sean Sweeney making the decisions. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mavs poach him back from the Spurs to be their new coach. Add to this the necessary purge of all people associated with the Luka trade & he had to go. Kidd didn't like Luka's work ethic and he had to give his stamp of approval to the trade no matter how much he denied it.

The Luis situation just screams shamelessness. He and his camp knew EXACTLY what they were doing. There’s quotes from his father recognizing that they’re turning down millions just to speed up the “second contract” in the league.

Just one year later, he’s taking it to court and trying to come back. 🤦‍♀️
