Illinois Hoops Recruiting Thread

anything on the current Michigan team on our menu? would love to poach something. I assume their starting lineup will be hard to get anyone but they have a huge class.

I wonder if Estrella and chaim leave to someone else... bigs are in demand this off season. if anyone leaves from their top 5 they will drop in the rankings. their depth was already in question

Maybe if he backs out of Michigan signed letter of intent. I believe all players have 15 days to enter transfer window if their coach leaves.
That window should open up early-mid next week. There is a 5 day period after the new coach is announced for them to meet with players before the 15 day portal opens. I'm not sure if Michigan has made an "official announcement" yet. I'm not even sure if May's paperwork is all in with the NBA yet.

I mean, we didn't make his top 6 (UM, MSU, Minn, UNC, Purdue, Texas) at a time when we may have been able to offer him a path to early playing time, hard to see why he'd suddenly be interested when it's clear his role would be minimal.

The portal doesn't open up for players until the school has signed or publicly announced a new coach. Then they have 5 days to decide and then 15 days to actually enter. It used to be based on the coach leaving but they changed it to the new hiring.

But we still buy the most merchandise.
For example (and I saw this on X first), this channel did breakdown videos of 5 different prospects for the draft:

Look at the views. Plus Wagler’s was the most recently uploaded.

Doesn't change the fact that illinois fans buy a ton of merch. Can't find a positive in anything can you?
Eh I don't think OP was being negative, he was more so pointing out what may fairly be a bit of misrepresentation in terms of comparing apples-to-apples for total apparel sales.

The NIL Store is an extension of Campus Ink, which has been a cornerstone of U of I merch since the 40s. The current owner bought Campus Sportswear (on U of I's campus) in 2015, rebranded and grew it substantially from a mom-and-pop print shop to a larger merch business on the U of I campus catering to sports, Greek life, other campus orgs, etc. In 2021 after NIL was introduced, they were early on partnering with players and spun out the "NIL Shop" from the company. With their success, they were able to raise a substantial amount from Mark Cuban and other investors and began launching at other schools besides Illinois in 2022. Illinois is still the foundation, but the company is now competing for merch revenue share directly with other merch businesses at several dozen other schools.

The success is awesome and the founder is a total U of I success story, but I would be worried if we didn't lead sales on the NIL store. It would be like if another state overtook Texas in Whataburger sales. I'm sure people in Texas do eat a lot of burgers, but it's probably a misrepresentation to say that Texas buys the most burgers based purely on Whataburger sales.
