Chicago Cubs 2026

I know the Cubs are short of arms, but Roberts has been particularly awful. Not sure how Counsell can justify bringing him in when in a good position in extras. Roberts and Maton are both awful....at least Maton is unavailable. Too bad.

Edit: Counsell and Roberts bailed out by......Wicks???

Bregman jogs to first on a groundout to the shortstop. It’s bobbled but because he dogged it, out by a step.

Please bench this guy. I can’t take it anymore. At least Shaw hustles. And his defense is better.
I guess $35MIL a year isn't enough to hustle. But at this point it pains me to say, he's still a better hitter than Shaw.

So are.our best two active pitchers are the scrap heap pick ups we used to beat the Brewers? Wowsers.
At this point, after a 6-1 road trip, take the W's and get to the All Star break when guys should start trickling back.

If they can get Taillon, Cabrera, Brown and Palencia back after the All Star break, they'll be in really good shape.....all things considered. I assume they'll add a significant arm at the deadline.

I have absolutely no clue how they've managed to navigate this absolutely unheard of slew of injuries, but....they have.

Not so sure. Bregman has almost 3 times as many AB with not a great deal more HR and RBI
AB Avg OPS HR RBI
Shaw 130 .246 ,737 4 20
Breg 322.239 .671 6 27
With Suzuki’s improved defense this year, the Cubs would be much better with Shaw at 3d and the money spent on Bregman available to buy a pitcher - or at least pay for all the medical bills. I didn’t understand the Bregman signing at the time, and really don’t understand it now.

Poor doggie. Let's just give him as good a life as possible. Let him find the bones, but not so easily as to take away his joy in the finding.
If Counsell and Hottovy can somehow keep this glued together until the All Star break, they deserve their flowers. What they've have to navigate with the pitching staff and the hockey line changes to this IL is insane. The team is in really, really good shape given what's occurred.

80% of the starting rotation out

The closer out

Long relievers have been starting, middle relievers have been pushed into high leverage roles, it's been a revolving door to and from Des Moines.....yet they they are, squarely in the thick of things.

It's wild... It's June and the number of pitchers who haven't spent time in the IL is somewhere around zero... maybe Shota, Webb, Rea? We've had 48 different players appear in a Cubs uniform this season. 31 guys have pitched. (including Cason Kelly)
61 roster moves in June alone...
Considering all that, you'd think we'd be in full "sell mode", but we are still hanging around relevancy.
