The way 2B, 3B, and SS are tied up for a number of years with Hoerner, Bregman, and Swanson, Shaw will either be traded at some point or become either Suzuki's or Happ's replacement next season.

Is it just me or was the send of Swanson on the short fly ball by Busch one of the worst sends ever in the ninth?
we only had about a 5% chance on that . we needed an error on the thrower or the catcher for it to work

The only thing that makes it make sense was that Mason Miller was pitching. Maybe they thought that that would be the last contact they would get.

I heard that argument made, but with no outs (one out after the pop fly was caught), the risk made no sense to me. In real time it looked like he had no shot, and he got gunned down by ten feet. But, hey, they won.
Miller has 66K's in 34.1 IP. 17.1 K's per 9
50% K% this season, and a hard hit rate of 17%. Opponents are slugging a pitiful .136 against him. He doesn't walk guys very often, and generates a lot of soft ground balls. (49% of balls in play are on the ground)
The chances of us getting decent contact twice weren't awesome... Pete is literally the only inherited runner all year, that has come in to score against him.
He has a great case for the best relief pitcher in baseball.

I understand the argument, but Swanson basically had almost a zero percent chance to score, and I like my chances better with one out and the bases still juiced.
I assume the depth is a bit easier to judge from the TV angle we get than standing by 3rd base on the field. Dansby is fast, but that dude threw a BB, right on the money. A bobble or on off-line throw could have made it close... It wasn't.
We were just fortunate Miller kept hanging sliders instead of throwing the gas... 6 of his 7 pitches were sliders, all up in the zone... The only FB he threw was 101, but missed badly.
Bears D really shut down the Chargers today. But I think the o is going to have to score more than 23 a game to make the playoffs.
