I remember when this was one of the worst P4/P5 programs in the country.
yup
less than 10 years ago we were in the bottom 5-10 of all P4-G5 programs - along with IU, KU & Duke . Pretty big change since then . Good coaching and the transfer portal are the main reason for that for us & the other named programs . Going forward add $$ to the reasons for B1G programs raising the floor of the bottom 1/3 of the conference.

On the other hand, by that chart our talent is still, on average, the worst in the Big Ten. Doing more.with less is nice and shows.good coaching, but we are bumping our heads on a low ceiling.

A couple of things:
1. Recruiting rankings aren’t an exact science. Do you think Florida, Auburn, and Florida St actually pull in top recruiting classes and they lose so many games because they have the worst coaching staffs in the country? Or do you think it’s possible players see a bump in rating when they commit to those programs because that generates subscribers for recruiting sites? The inverse can also be true.
2. This chart goes back to 2021 before we had on the field success. Now that we have, we’ve seen a decently sizable bump in recruiting success the past few years. But like Whitman said on the podcast circuit last week, we’ll likely always need a punch a class or two above our weight.

I suspect it’s fallen off since PAC10 fell apart .
there are a lot of players ( & parents ) that grew up really admiring that school & program , but even that is not what it once was

Yeah, awful deal. Michigan St’s deal for their jersey patches is 10 years, $40 million. $4 million per year.
might buy them the plant leg for a kicker for a year.....
I am still puzzled by Indiana football. In the first place Cignetti turned that program over almost over night. I didn't think there was any program out there that could activate such a dramatic change so fast. Secondly, you can't do what he has done without spending huge amounts of money. Does Indiana football have that kind of a bankroll to play with? Thousands of alums with deep, deep pockets? If so, I might understand somewhat. But money alone can't do this; it's likely guys in the portal are looking at branding, history, a program legacy and other stuff. If Cignetti's got a genie in a bottle, why not share some of that with BB? Now if Indiana was doing the same thing in BASKETBALL, (they're evidently not) it wouldn't surprise me much.
