Salary cap baseball would be meaningless dreck. "Content" in the worst sense of the word.

It’s not like LA is simply firehosing people with money like the Yankees and Red Sox of ~20 years ago. They’re just taking advantage of the fact that seemingly every other front office in the league is playing scared.
A raised salary floor with no salary cap is my hope.

If the owners are glued to that, there won't be baseball in 2027. I do agree that there has to be a way to limit or close the gap(by a lot).
The problem is that the players union won't go along with it whatsoever. 0% chance. Now, we're looking at players giving in and crossing a picket line(NFL in the late 80's).
The players not making millions about millions will eventually give in, but at that point, will they have lost the fans? If there's one thing that COVID did teach us is that people will find other things to do. If they erase an entire summer, there's a lot of options out there.

It would improve things quite a bit. On the list I looked at 17 teams are at $150M or more. The 13 teams below that mark are a combined $560M under that. That’s a fair amount of stars/very good players that wouldn’t be on the Dodgers and other teams with high payrolls. But no way owners would agree to a floor without a cap.
All the deferred money is an issue too. Some kind of formula to curtail that vehicle for getting around a cap would be good too.

He most definitely not thinking situation, time and score. You have to challenge that even if the umpire was right. Nico is a very cerebral player that didn't make a very cerebral decision.
That said, this offense is wildly overrated. I know the stats are there, but they're skewed because of the outbursts they do have over long stretches where they'll score 13, 10, 8, 7, 9, but then follow it up with 0, 2, 1, 1, 2. It balances out, but it's a roller coaster. Right now, they lost a game(vs The Cards) where they let up 0 runs and lost in extras. They let up 2 runs and won in extras, then this Yankees series, where the pitching was phenomenal......they lose 2 of 3.

Right but if we're talking about a cap, the deferred money/long-term contract thing is a separate issue and kind of a well-worn circumvention tactic (who else remembers Ilya Kovalchuk agreeing to nearly a two-decade contract?)

I’m guessing the loophole will be removed in the new CBA, much like it was in the NHL.
So all the talk about a sellers market for SP and I’ve been less than impressed with what teams are getting back. Think what Detroit got back for Skubal is quite a bit better than any other return. Granted I don’t think any SPs with control have been traded yet. Thought Cubs got a good deal with Gausman. Let’s hope he works out.
And speaking of non-rentals. I haven’t looked closer at García to NYY deal, but it looks like they didn’t give up that much for a guy with one more year of team control.

Here's what both sides can come to an agreement on. If teams down want a salary cap, fine. Raise the floor and don't allow ANY deferred payments. That will shut a ton of this down.

You beat me to the punch. This is the rabbit hole the Dodgers are willing to go down with their entire roster. This will have to be shut down moving forward.
The biggest issue there will be that you can't retroactively change these deals that are signed, so the competitive advantage will continue until 2040, when these deals start peeling off.

I agree, didn’t cost much for a rental. Cabrera is rehabbing and will be back in a couple of weeks. Looking forward, it will be Boyd, Imanaga, Gausman, Cabrera and Rea. Assad will head back to the pen.
Beware the various outlets mis-reporting one of the prospects going back as Tate Southisene (2025 1st round pick for the Braves) versus Ty Southisene (2024 4th round pick for the Cubs).
Tate is 19 years old, just got promoted to AA and is on his way to being a top 100 prospect. Ty is 20 and still in A ball.
