Chicago Cubs 2026

A win is a win, so I’ll gladly take a win on an error. And how about Bergman’s ninth inning heroics.

As to Cease, I seem to remember at least one poster wanting nothing to do with him this off season. He’s having a very nice year.

not sure why he wanted to take the open base . I guess he showed me why , but I want him swinging 99 out of 100 times
Plate discipline and getting on base no matter what is the primary reason he is so much better this year. Chasing fewer balls forces pitchers to throw better pitches, also a big reason for his improvement.

Happ needs a couple days off. 4 KO's tonight. Batting .168 for the last 30 games and hitless for the last 7 games with 9 KO's in 19 at bats.
A couple of games off is being kind. He should get in the game for late game defense only. He has absolutely zero confidence. What I really don't understand is if Counsell is bent on him getting AB's.....why hit him anywhere, but 9th? He's a rally killer. That said, on the Cubs, the 9th hole is a big spot with PCA up next in the order. Just not seeing the thought process there.

Happ with a G.S.* tonight.
How can CC keep penciling him into the 4-5-6 slot ????

(* That's Golden Sombrero, not Grand Slam.)

Gotta love sports fans. Cubs win. One of the key acquisitions pitches like we hoped he would. Key rookie hits a home run and gets his average up to .300. Two key guys in the middle of the order who have underperformed for the season go 3 for 7. Webb pitches a perfect ninth for the save. Even the Brewers lose. And all the posts are about negative occurrences.

Good win. Go Cubs.

What's wrong with those posters? Glad we aren't like them!

For the record. My comment about Happ came at the end of the 7th inning before the Ramirez HR, the Webb save and the Brewers win. :)

I suppose it's because we want to get a bye in the first round, not just a wild card.
We are playing good and want to point out a few obvious things that might make us better.

I think you know why 😉

Hey, I get it. But it’s not like the criticisms of Happ and Thielbar are anything new. And we know Craig emphasizes defense, which has worked out pretty well, so even a slumping, four consecutive gold glove winner is going to find himself in the field maybe more often than we’d like. Cubs are still #2 in majors in runs scored. But it is what sports fans do.

Craig values defense and veterans. Takes awhile for him to gain full confidence in a young player. For that reason, I do think Shaw being hurt has handcuffed Craig some when it comes to Happ. But with a righty on the mound, I wouldn’t be surprised if Happ is in the lineup again today. And if Clay Holmes appreciates D as much as Gausman, he’ll probably be OK with that.

For me, it's the fact that there aren't any dog teams in the playoffs and no team can afford to give away outs or runs in the case of the pitching staff.

I suppose that he's looking to get Happ going offensively and playing against non-playoff teams is a way to get Happ's confidence up. I suppose the same thing can be said about Thielbar but there comes a point in time that you have to just cut bait and figure something else out. Happ, as you said, provides something other than offense but if Thielbar isn't getting outs, what else does he provide?

What you're saying is true and I hope he breaks out of it. But it isn't like Happ is making decent contact and hitting in bad luck. He's striking out at a tremendous pace. And the majority of those are called third. He's constantly guessing.
He's the most tenured Chicago athlete and his tenure is most likely coming to an end in 2 months. I'll feel bad when they don't re-sign him.....but I think we can agree that both sides need a change.

I’m not saying either player isn’t ripe for or deserving of criticism. I mean I think Happ already has more strikeouts this year than last with a lot of baseball left. It was the timing of the criticism — during and after a game in which the Cubs won and never trailed after the first inning — and not a mention of the good things that transpired. But, hey, that’s sports fans.

This site gets a lot more traffic when our teams lose. Got to let off frustration because we hate seeing them lose.

I started the comments on Happ. They were not meant to be a criticism but a suggestion. Remember when they sat Swanson when he was struggling? He came back with a vengeance. Also the comment was before the Cubs won, Ramirez homered, Webb saved and the Brewers lost. Sitting Happ for a few games may help him get his confidence back. They need to try something because he is almost down to batting .200.
