St Louis Cardinals 2026

With Sandberg it was more than 30 games. Kid couldn't hit anything. He started as a third baseman. Manager told him not to worry about it, you are our third baseman. He was slender and not hitting his weight. I was actually surprised he left him alone, but I guess they saw something they liked.
Were now comparing this kid to Ryne Sandberg. i think we should slow down a bit.

Dobbins to IL. Quinn Matthews called up (though he was going to be already anyway).

They do have off days coming up the next two Mondays but Goold seems to think Cooper Hjerpe or Brycen Mautz will be the next ones likely to be called up for a spot start.

OK, WTH was Marmol thinking? He shouldn’t have started the 9th with OBrien and he definitely should’ve pulled OBrien when he allowed the 4-3 lead. Then he let OBrien pitch when he clearly didn’t have his stuff and was nearing 40 pitches. That HR pitch to Schwarber was predictable at that point.

As far as the manager goes, you get what you pay for. I would have thought with new upper level mangement taking over, that the front office would have made a clean break with the on the field operations starting with the manager. But that apparently is not the Cardinal Way. Having said that, I will give kudos to Marmol for his job so far this year, particularly up to the all-star break. We all know that there have been issues with the pitching since circa 2023. This pitching staff lacks depth and apparently has hit the wall.

Pallante and Dobbins on the IL so they have to scramble to fill 2 rotation spots. Also a BP that is constantly tasked with getting 10+ outs every game is wearing out. 25 runs in 3 games @ Philly.

Winn to IL (how long has it been this? I wrote DL before realizing my mistake). Gorman back.

Hopefully Gorman does better in MLB. He is not tearing up AAA ,
Nolan Gorman batted .182 with 13 home runs, 29 RBIs, and a .758 OPS across 46 games for the Triple-A Memphis Redbirds during his 2026 demotion
Strike out rate is 44%, . For those who loved Noot, Gormas is walking at 21% rate. so his OBP is not too bad .328.

I wonder how long they will keep Baez in majors
Excluding his debut where he was 3-4 with 3 HR, he has 2 hits 3 walks 1 SF in 32 plate appearances so he batting .071 with 45% strikeout
Don't want to damage him. Maybe they can just play him vs. lefties or as defensive replacement.

From what I read the move was retroactive to this past Saturday so he hopes to come back on the upcoming 3 city west coast road trip.

They're not gonna send him back down at this point. Not sure how you could "damage him" by getting him more experience. In fact the most harmful thing would be to not play him as much as you propose.

This team isn't making the playoffs anyway. Let the guy get as many looks at MLB pitching as possible and work through it. If he's going to be a major leaguer adjusting to this level of pitching and working his way out of a slump are going to be things he's going to have to do. May as well give him the chance to do it now when wins and losses don't matter.
