I’d guess a combo of increased competition for those players, and increased resources at home to land big time American kids.
I’m not sure it’s necessarily a pivot… The strategy has always been to get the best players you can, whether they are home or abroad.
Having recent post-season success gets you into living rooms you wouldn’t have been invited into previously.
