I was thinking Malcolm Hill, but I haven't watched a ton of Kitt
Malcolm vs Roger is a little different but I think I get it. we all know that brad loves big guys who can do it all, in whatever manner that arrives. the thing I noticed is this dude is thicc, lol. so I can see a little Sergio mclain as well

booty ball may be back on the menu boys. if he can shoot from the outside then he definitely is in the hill, Powell mold. love that

See less Roger Powell, see a hybrid between Malcolm Hill and Quintin Richardson. Saw Roger Powell practice skills when he first arrived at Champaign. He was very mechanical was surprised to see how fluid he became by junior and senior year.

This staff can really spot talent early
It might be Brad’s best skill.

Robert talks about it all the time, but in Brad’s second recruiting cycle, here are the visitors he got onto campus that fall/winter, their rankings according to 247, and their accolades:

#11 Khalil Whitney: none
#23 Oscar Tshiebwe: National Player Of The Year
#54 Kofi Cockburn: 2x Consensus All American
#57 Drew Timme: 3x Consensus All American
#60 EJ Lidell: 2x 1st team all B1G
#120 Terrence Shannon Jr: 1st Team All American

If we had the Illinois program of today, then, he absolutely would’ve landed a few of those guys and a what a hit rate he would’ve had.

Talked about at 42:10 --

How many deep-threat 5's are also rim protectors? I'm not sure that anyone can ask for both a starting five who can all hit from deep (i.e., prevent the D from clogging the lane) and a rim protector in the starting 5.
Heard Werner talking on a podcast yesterday that Illinois has 4 five-star visits lined up for this fall, but he forgot one. Last I knew, Dylan Betts is also a five-star who is taking an Official visit here next month, who could also reclassify.

According to Wikipedia "Terrence Shannon Jr. was named a 3rd-team All-American by the Associated Press (AP) and received 2nd-team All-American honors from select outlets like 247Sports and CBS Sports."

Coaches had him 2nd team I think, but we here at Illinois, all know that TSJ was really the runner-up for National Player of the Year that year, and was a 1st Team All-American!!

But I just wanted to clarify lol...

As far as scouting the lower ranked kids, Shannon speaks to that even though he didn't land him the 1st or even 2nd time.

I'd make an argument that Shannon's while being ranked the lowest had the best individual season(his final one) of anyone on that list though some guys left early.

On another note, I still the the 2021 team wins the national title of Liddell stayed in Illinois. The trio of Ayo/Liddell/Kofi would have been absolutely nasty especially with Trent as your 4th guy.

Roger Powell Jr???

🤔

I ran into Roger Powell Jr. at the Y in Rockford shortly after he had graduated. He saw my Illini cap and came up to say he liked it.
I told him I liked the way he followed his shot.

He just smiled and gave me a fist.
A pretty cool interaction from a cool guy, quality dude and great Illini.

It’s been one of the more consistent traits. Of course they aren’t batting 1.000 but man they’ve got some great fringe guys, with Wagler obviously being the Magnus Opus.
Their batting rate is real high. The only total failure I can think of was Petrovic.
