Illini Basketball Uniforms

Couldn’t have asked for a better a better sponsor. No huge logo, no differing colors, and local. Home run from Whitman.
I noticed that the patch is on the right side for men's basketball but the left side for the women? Some significance? The men do have the U. S. flag on the left side, but the women do not.

I spy with my little eye 2005 era shorts on Kylan?

Just so happened to be wearing mine today as well.

Printed. Not embroidered. But still high quality.

A valiant effort, but I think our blue is off.

Frickin’ gorgeous, man.

Since we(rightfully) honor the Flyin' Illini team, I think we should have a couple games a year where we wear the jerseys from the '04-'05 team as well!

I guess I'm in the minority but I don't know that I love the local/regional sponsor. No offense to the people at Busey. And it's a nice gesture by both parties to support local institutions. But from a branding standpoint, I'd rather have a strong national brand. Because that's what we are trying to be.

That said, I appreciate their willingness to incorporate their brand into ours. Unlike State Farm who apparently insisted on using their red logo.

By the way, State Farm continues to look good in that stadium naming deal. $2 mil / year for stadium naming vs $6 mil / year for a jersey patch.
To be fair State Farm bought in during our downswing as a program so our brand value wasn't as high. Busey have bought in at a time when we are establishing ourselves as one of the premier brands of college basketball and when more money is involved in college sports than ever before.

Also because they agreed to a longer term deal they did pay twice as much up front (and that 60 million is now closer to 120 adjusted for inflation). And naming deals have to be longer because if/when we sell the naming rights to a new company tons of signage and the court have to be redone, whereas uniform patch is just a matter of replacing the jerseys which we do every year anyway.

That said I agree that it would be nice to have a more lucrative stadium sponsorship, I'm sure the admin feels like they sold at the wrong time as our stadium rights would probably be worth well over double what we got.

I'm NOT expecting either one of these, so this is mostly just for fun! However, we now as of last season have the following Illini uniform combos from our two immensely popular throwback styles:

Orange Flyin' Illini | Introduced in the 2018-2019 season
90

White Script | Introduced in the 2019-2020 season

Orange Script | Introduced last season vs. LIU on November 22

Navy Flyin' Illini | Introduced last season vs. UConn on November 28

And we have the following two "missing" colors of both styles:

White Flyin' Illini | Introduced during the Groce Years (but not worn since circa 2016-2017?)

So ... if we DID get two awesome surprises and got the White Flyin' Illini and Navy Script to complete the set (and hopefully forever retire the 1LL1NO1S rags!), what games would you want for each uniform's big debut?

I feel like debuting the White Flyin' Illini uniforms for the United Center game vs. UConn would just be too awesome. I don't ever think we should wear navy of any type at the UC since it is our "Home Away From Home," and we DID just lose to UConn in the Orange Script the last time we played. Busting out this new throwback option for an incredibly hyped, nationally televised Friday night Final Four rematch in front of 19K+ screaming Illini fans would be epic!!

As for the Navy Script, I am sure they would want to debut it in the first half of the season, so I will eliminate games after January 1. The November 10 road game at Texas Tech makes a ton of sense given we are obviously the away team and it would contrast nicely with their red, and the November 17 road game at Duke would also be great (though the color contrast element wouldn't be there. However, since Missouri is technically the "home team" this year, I think the perfect time to debut it would be at Braggin' Rights as a "color rush" combo if Mizzou wears their Mustard Puke™ color - err, I mean gold.

A guy can dream.
