Purdue is worse than we are. So, no, I have no hope.
After today...no they are not. They simply played a harder schedule than us to this point. Going into the game today, I was much less confident than many other posters, as I have thought Purdue was better than their record.

The Illini are easily one of the four worst teams in the B1G (Illini, MSU, Maryland, and Rutgers). Good news is that we play two of them (starting next week). Win those two, and we might be 4-4 going down the stretch in November.

If we lose this game, then we are likely a 2 or 3 win team. Win, and we can possibly get to 5 wins (maybe 6 if we get a couple upsets).

This team was always going to be worse than prior years, but the extent of the fall has been more disappointing. It is looking like this team might go 2-5 at home this year (barring an upset or two)...that is unacceptable. The pressure for 2027 will be tremendous if this season continues to unravel.

We've blown 2 home games against teams we could have beaten playing decent football. Looking ahead Oregon and Iowa were already better than us and still are. Neb/UCLA/NW are all significantly better than last year. MSU and the Terps are all that's left of teams on the same rung as us. Looking a lot like a 2-10 floor and 4-8 ceiling. BB will need to hit the DC search hard early to land someone that can fix the mess he created. Him and JW are going to have to work the NIL circuit relentlessly. And make better decisions on where those $$ go.

Fitzee hates Illinois. He will have Michigan State ready to go.
MSU is not ready to do anything right now. Probably the worst conference team we'll face this season. If we can't win this one, winless conference slate and 2-10 record are possible.

Also, stop being so scared of Fitz. After that weird Covid season (2020) he's 2-18 vs Big Ten competition. Last time we played him we won 41-3. 47-14 the time before that (with a Tony Peterson offense!). Man, Fitz sure had them ready for those games.

2-18 in his last 20 and Purdue was 1-19

So your sayin’ there’s a chance?!

After what I saw this week, my logical brain won’t let me give any leeway to my emotional side. I don’t think we can undersell how bad this week’s loss actually was.

I expect MSU to hand the ball off and run until we stop something. And I’m not sure we can. I can’t remember a defensive front 7 being worse than this group.

2-18 means he's doing better than Purdue was before they rolled into town...
Nobody was cowering in fear of Purdue. You all treat Fitz like he's the the reincarnation of Bear Bryant. This MSU team is worse than Purdue. No guarantee we win it, but this is the most likely win left on our schedule. Even if Fitz decides to finally prepare his players.
