Illini in the Pros (Basketball)

I get it but at the time, thats a trade that everyone makes. We would have been furious with brad for not going after a 5star guard because we had Podz.
The trade was entirely counter to BU's philosophy, and he paid the price for it.

Was it a trade?Or was it Podz not wanting to take his chance to compete for the spot?

It worked out great for him (minus the fact Santa Clara wasn't good or a tournament team and we were), but had he stayed at Illinois, he would have been starting IMO.

Funny. Not me. Skyy had all the makings of a flake.

And our recruiting should never be based on the opinions of the mob. Weber said the same thing about why he didn't go after VanVleet.

Keaton will be a project. But this was known. No better situation than the Clippers for him to slowly develop. Shead (Houston alum) was abusing him on the defensive end.

You think Underwood’s recruiting is based on the opinions of the mob, or you using that to refute the posters point?

Cause recruiting can never be based on hindsight which is another way to reframe the posters argument.

Staff’s ability to identify talent still being questioned because Podz? Wild.

Sometimes players move on, it’s just the ecosystem now with NIL and Portal Kombat madness.

There will still be misevaluations too, that’s not a zero-tolerance type of thing. But Skyy ended up being a pretty good player with a double digit scoring average and shot nearly 40% from three across his college career, a starting guard for tournament teams outside of the 1 season at Lville.

Not sure how he was so easy to identify as a “flake” either. It’s probably difficult to predict his dad would get sick (RIP) and he’d also get punched in the face along the same timeline. Not sure flake is the word I’d use the describe him.

I was responding to the poster's comment.

At the same time evaluating recruiting is always hindsight. Coaches get paid to have foresight. We as fans use hindsight to figure out how well they've done.

think he was taking issue with your statement that you had better foresight than the staff did

meaning sky being easy to identify up front as a flake

Is TSJ injured? I watched their game last night, and he didn't appear. They played 16 guys, but maybe they have to sit some to see all the players. I hope he has a better role this year, or gets traded.

Also Will Riley not getting much playing time with the wizards

I mean, I'm not at all confident TSJ ends up playing meaningfully more than he did last season, and with Dybantsa coming in I am a little worried about what Riley's role will be this season, but both guys got good minutes in the prior two preseason games for their teams so I wouldn't read too much into not playing this last game. Probably just rotating guys around to get good looks at everyone.
