They have multiple sets. Also I hope I'm wrong about football but remember it's not just jerseys, it's helmets and pants too. Helmets are expensive and pants aren't cheap. Cosign on the stripes but there's nothing they can do now.

Asked today and for Soccer only the Orange Uni's are new for this year. The white uni's may have something added. Will change with the normal rotation schedule.

I understand why they did it for mixing and matching uniforms, but I'm still not a fan of the white I on the orange helmets...

I'm not a graphic artist and am not good enough at using the rendering package our software uses, so the lighting is a little jacked up. With that said, here's my humble attempt....

I think that looks fine for a crazy one-off special uniform.... not our normal attire.

They plan to - from this Herald-Review article:

Tim Beckman, Illini football coach, and John Groce, the men’s basketball coach, said they are excited about the victory shield.

“We’ll utilize that,” Beckman said, pointing to the shield’s prominent position on the neck of the football uniforms. “If you’re the offense, defense or special teams player of the game, you’ll get a victory shield sticker to put on the back of your helmet.”

I've never seen a mini-helmet that wasn't worn in a game, so it sounds like they might be wearing shield helmets for at least one game this year.

Sorry, the shield is alright for the corners of the field. hats, t shirts but that's about it.

I think it would look good on the white helmet. With the oranges being a little bit different, it looks funny IMO.
