I'm not sure the gray look stands all that well on its own, but if you make a big stink of the Red Grange thing, announce it ahead of time, get the announcers talking about it, etc, I think it could be pretty cool.

Like how ESPN would always show the segment of Illini/Navy Seal training for their telecasts.

I would like to nail down the look AND WEAR IT before we start throwing around alternate looks or jerseys.

I wish there was some way you could order authentic jerseys through the school. The replica jerseys don't match what the team wears on the field (collar & no stripes on the front), so I have no interest in buying one.

Adidas does it for their schools. It's $300 I believe but I know some diehards I'm sure would consider it.

When you're already $100 in for something that doesn't even really look like what the team is wearing, I'm sure a lot of people would be willing to pay the extra to buy a real one. Just my opinion.

But of course the real ones aren't designed to be worn without shoulder pads and look weird when worn by themselves.

Most likely not. Generally Nike only makes two colors of jerseys for schools with our current level of football standing. Blue won't be available for sale since we won't be wearing them unless something has changed and I think they generally feel colors will sell better than whites.

That's a shame, the white is my favorite of all of them and the only one I really wanted to buy.

Seriously? So you think the Adidas unis that some mentioned as being authentic are all baggy shouldered and ill fitting? The few Nike ones also?

I forget whose family it was I saw wearing their son's authentic replica jerseys a few years back (Justin Harrison maybe?), but yes, I do remember the shoulders/sleeves looking very awkward, much like they do when you see football players wearing them sans pads in photo shoots.

No, I think they are charging $200 extra to put sewn-on numbers on basically the same jerseys and idiots are falling for it.

Basically the same jersey? Well that is different then the EXACT same jersey. The authentic ones that we pay $200+ for are tailored differently in the shoulders from game worn jerseys. Thats the reason some are marketed as "Game Worn Jersey" so that the buyer knows the shoulders are going to fit looser. Doesn't mean the colors, stitching, etc. are different. For those of us who are built like the Incredible Hulk we can wear a game worn jersey and still look good, others not so much. :D

I meant the same jersey as they charge $90 for, which is a ludicrous price in itself.

The cut is not all that differs. Placememt and quality of materials differs significantly. I have some Nike NFL Elite jerseys straight from NFL.com and the difference is hugely significant. Again maybe not for the average fan, but certainly worth it for the jersey aficionado. Rumor has it that in general Nike will not make a jersey order unless they can sell 600 pieces between all their various outlets. Personally I do not believe that they would be able to sell 600 of them at $300 apiece for Illinois. Maybe alabama or Oregon, but I don't think they even sell the sewn on editions for most teams anymore much less the on-field "elite" versions.

The gray jersey is now listed as "discontinued" on fanatics. So....

Those jerseys you saw were tailored. Every single jersey you see on the field is tailored. No players wear jerseys as is shipped from Nike.

Anybody here think the team trots out in anything BUT orange/orange/white on Saturday?

Nope. I think that will be the most common home combo all year. I guess you can switch the helmet from time to time to white or blue. Personally, I like the orange/orange/white combo.
