11/16 Games

A couple big games for former Groce targets.

Elijah Thomas had 17/15/3. He looked lean, made some great passes and played adequate enough defense against, coincidentally, Ohio.

Jordan Goodwin had 19/10/3 with 4 steals against ACC competition. He really looked like he belonged. He was the main ballhandler to initiate the offense but SLU runs a lot of the same dribble handoff stuff KU does on the perimeter. Jordan does almost everything right but he's really going to need to get that shot down as he went 7/19 from the floor and had some bad bricks, even on free throws. SLU might win the A-10 depending on how VCU and Dayton adjust to new coaches and how EC Matthews's injury affects Rhode Island. Goodwin will be A-10 POTY sooner rather than later.

Crappy early results from Mizzou and Wake Forest is the proverbial catch-22. Makes you feel better about Illinois' odds against them, but also is likely going to be an anchor for strength-of-schedule.

Agree, but at least the Utes gave us a blueprint of how to beat them. Whether we have the personnel or experience to do so is another matter.

We want all of our opponents to have good records and for us to beat them.

Porter didn’t play for Miznoz right? If not, I think it immediately makes the game irrelevant to us as he will most likely be playing then.

I would not put Mizzou and Wake in the same category. Mizzou has actually been good this year, and played without Porter. So losing to a good Utah team in Salt Lake City without one of the best players in college basketball is really not crappy. Wake Forest lost to two cupcakes at home.

Tilmon fouled out in 10 mins of playing time against Wagner. And then beat that by fouling out in 6 mins of playing time against Utah. SIX MINUTES

Looks like Tilmon needs to learn not to foul.

16 minutes last two games with 10 fouls

Well, we seem to be pretty good at getting to the line and drawing fouls with this team so far, so maybe that's our main strategy. Keep going to the basket and foul out everyone on their team! :thumb:

He would have fit in perfectly at Illinois :)

On second thought, maybe he would have been a better fit for John Groce's system :hand:

Not only is he not playing, but he didn't even sit on the bench against Wagner because it was too painful. And he didn't travel with the team to Utah, presumably because of the injury, though that hasn't been explicitly stated. Some people are starting to get worried that it's not a minor injury.

I don't think Dayton is very good, but Temple looked tough.

Hey, I think Georgia Southern is a decent team this year. Returned a lot of scoring from last year where they were also decent. I think they will make the tournament this year.

But I’m a little biased :)

Doesn't that make them the new North Florida?
