I can't do it. I just can't. Even though Purdue losing will help our chances at winning the B10 title, I cannot root for them to lose to Michigan. I want Purdue to win by 35 and not give the Wolverines a signature win.

It's weird; I will say I prefer this team over that team before a game, but if I'm watching it I'll find myself rooting for the other team, just out of reflex. I'm saving the mind switcheroo tonight and just say go Boilers.

It's games like these that you'll see Illini fans split on who they want to win. And that reflex you talk about is quite common ... whoever is trailing at the time, you root for.

This is Purdue's 3rd toughest game left on the schedule. I'm 100% rooting for Michigan.

But that is also because I'm confident Michigan isn't going to finish strong this season. The media keeps trying to build this narrative that they have "turned a corner" or they are about to go on a big run. But they aren't, it's just the media loving Michigan so much.

He has, but his team is also very young. The hype was mainly because of the incoming freshman class, plus Dickinson. Dickinson has been good but the freshmen have been inconsistent. It happens. All the top programs have had down years occasionally when their elite recruits don't produce right away.

The only reflex I will be feeling is a gag reflex, for cheering scUM to win. I want a banner.

I don't know, I am a little bit sympathetic to "the media" on this one (whoever they may be). Dickinson has really turned it on. It's the rest of their team letting them down. But the rest of their team are a bunch of 4 and 5 star recruits, so it is certainly plausible that they could hit another gear any time. I hope it doesn't happen but it's definitely not unrealistic.

But how can you count out a team led by the reigning National Coach of the Year?

SIU thought they hit the lottery when Lowery took them to the sweet sixteen in his first year which is comparable to final four for a P5 school. Then followed with one of the highest rated recruiting classes they ever had. A few years later they were buying him out. The program is still trying to climb out of the hole he dug. There are similarities between him and Howard.

If Purdue loses, I'll go to Austin Peay and do a headstand on their bball court.
Purdue just might lose. They were hyper-focused for both games against us. The games they lost its because they did not approach the game with any urgency. They beat Michigan fairly easily 5 days ago and had a max focus, max effort game 2 days ago against us. This game has let down written all over it. So, my having said that, they will probably win by 40 (just because Hunter Dickinson was a tool in the game in West Lafayette).

Longer term we are better with Howard missing the tournament. If he reclaims any reputation as a coach by pulling off a Purdue upset to sneak into the tournament, adds a couple tourney wins, then Illinois is battling him for every 4-5 star out of Chicago that doesn’t go blue blood for the next 10 years.

Not worried about that. If we can win the B1G and at least a few tourney games we'll have more to sell. I think we already do.
