2/15 Games

Life in the BIG. So much for an easy game. Max, should have stayed home.

ACC officials just ignored the rulebook to replay an offensive basket interference and give Duke the winning bucket against Wake. Unreal.

It did look like they pulled out their practice gear, complete with reversible jerseys. Beauty is subjective, though. The same people who liked those must have thought MSU was lookin’ fly tonight, too…

Defense is optional at Providence tonight apparently
Not impressed with Providence, but in fairness this is my first viewing of them. Villanova looks top 16, but will probably get a 3 seed ... because they're Villanova.

Having been to State College, I definitely understand the isolated argument, especially during the week. However, even their weekend games when they are halfway decent are poorly attended. I suppose an even bigger argument could be made about how Ohio State, with their success in basketball and large metro area, can’t come close to filling their arena. Just very strange.
Value City Arena at OSU is just too big for the program right now. It seats nearly 19k and, as I understand it, has among the most expensive tickets in the conference. St. John Arena, which housed the team from the mid-'50s to the late '90s, seats a bit over 13k. I still scratch my head about why the program left it. It was a very tough place to play, with an aluminum ceiling like Mackey Arena and a very steep profile. In contrast, Value City Arena is generic, and sterile.

To be fair, the demand was there when the arena was built 24 years ago. They filled the new arena in the early years in the late '90s/ '00s when OSU had strong teams, drawing maybe 16k per game. But after Columbus got the Blue Jackets NHL franchise in 2000, and that team eventually began to win regularly (from around 2013 onward) around the time that Thad Matta's Bucks began to slide, basketball attendance suffered. That's really why they're not drawing the way they were in the '00s the past several seasons.

On top of that, basketball fans there are quite fickle. Football rules the roost in Columbus and basketball is generally an afterthought, even when they have a strong team. It has always been that way.

Looked like the correct call after review. You can review that now post November 21, 2021

They said you can review goaltending. How about that desperation shot by Wake. Wouldn’t have counted. Ball still in his hands as the red light went on.

In 2019 didn't Illinois beat them as a Top 10 team at PSU?
2020. That loss to the Illini started a slide when they lost five of their last six. Slipped to #20 by the BTT, which was of course cancelled so they weren't able to go to the tourney.

My goodness, a lot of good close games tonight. Duke/Wake Forest went to the last second, Texas/Oklahoma going to OT. Nova/Providence, Wisconsin/Indiana.
Fun night for College hoops.

My son will let me know this Saturday how the attendance is at the home game with Iowa.

Anybody else watch Izzo post game? He seemed visibly shaken and not himself. I'm guessing he either laid into the whole team, a trash can, brick wall, or all the above.

Pennsylvania is enormous and State College is in the middle of nowhere. On a football Saturday, people are willing to travel a few hours each way for a traditionally strong team, but no one's leaving work early to do that on a Tuesday for a hoops program that's never had any sustained success. That leaves the students, who are mostly from pro-town areas (Philly, Pittsburgh, NJ) and have a familiar "let me know when they're ranked and then I'll go" attitude.
Tough to get to Happy Valley in the winter. Why buy season tickets when you aren't sure how many games that you'll be able to make?

Sorry just need to say this to someone. :)
I’m so sick of listening to Bills complain about physical play. He complains about it every game I’ve seen him announce. This season has been one of the most fun to watch because of it. IMO. :)
