Based on the standings, the fight was all Gard’s and Johnny Davis’s fault. Both MUST be suspended for the remainder of the B1G season.
Lol. It can be dangerous here not to follow that with a /S :ROFLMAO:

If all their five stars stay and they bring in a good coach, they might win it all. Shades of 1989. Coach fired and all of a sudden the team plays to its talent level.
Disagree. They don't have a seasoned Glenn Rice, Loy Vaught or Terry Mills. Nor a Rumeal Robinson. Bill Frieder was one of the top coaches in the nation. Juwan can't hold a candle to Frieder.

Nah. Historical situations may indeed appear twice. If so: in 1989 as tragedy for our Illini, in 2022 I'm betting as utter farce for Michigan.

Why couldn't our next game be against them instead of Ohio State? I'm all for kicking a team with a coach like that down when they are already not making the tournament.

I think league should suspend Howard and the player for the season. As to whether Michigan should fire Howard, if they were looking for a reason to they now have it. I actually think Howard’s presser performance in some ways was just as bad as the slap. Not once did he apologize or say he shouldn’t have done what he did, but rather blamed Gard “for putting hands on him.” But Gard had already walked away and the slap wasn’t directly a result of what happened between them. And then in response to the player throwing punches, Howard babbles something about team, family and having each other’s backs. Geesh.

Frankly, would not be surprised to see Juwan Howard cited for misdemeanor assault for that. You just can't do that. Gard touching his arm in the handshake line is not a "self-dense" excuse for smacking an assistant in the head ten seconds later because you are angry and cannot control your emotions.

Letting Martelli coach out the season and firing Howard for cause is totally viable if they want to go that route.

Howard is not just angry; he's not very smart. At Iowa City, during the second half, a ball went backcourt and nobody was going to be able to catch up to it, so he steps onto the court and retrieves it for the official as a gesture of kindness. Gets a technical for stepping onto the court during live play. Had already gotten a class A technical, so now they slap him with a class C technical. 2 free throws.

He's had a heck of a week that's for sure. Don't normally expect to top grabbing a live ball on the court but here we are. Maybe it was all part of his master plan to make us forget that happened

JH has it covered. Just watched his post game presser and he actually said he felt he needed to defend himself because Gard touched him..... Bawaaaa. You can't make this stuff up. Self defense ....really. Now that is insulting to everyone's intelligence
It worked last year - why not use it again? He claimed Turgeon "charged" him and he defended himself. The 6-foot-10 former NBA star said he was acting in self-defense against the 5-10, 56 year old Turgeon. Of course, Turgeon wasn't moving toward Howard, it was the other way around. Howard assaulted someone today. Call it a punch or a slap or a grab. I don't care. btw, I don't think Gard is blameless here. There should be consequences for both. Consequences should be more severe for Howard, but neither is off the hook.

If a college player acted like this we'd call it immature. I don't even know what to call it for someone of Howard's age and position. The ego and entitlement on this guy is insane. He clearly doesn't think he has anything to be worried about. I don't see how the Michigan AD can see this behavior and not think he needs to nip this in the bud. I can't imagine that if Howard survives this his behavior will improve, as he clearly doesn't see anything wrong with his actions, and there's a decent chance it can get worse.

I think the word your looking for is petulant.

Diabte threw at least two or more heavy punches and should be suspended. I'd be shocked if he plays against us on the 27th.

God I will love if Michigan and that squad is in the NIT.

Another sad not us the son had a vort head than his father trying to get him to calm down

Agree. Still I recall Schembechler's statement: "A Michigan man is going to coach Michigan." Why, Frieder, why? :ROFLMAO:

I was being a bit facetious. I think they're loaded, but not on the level of Rice, Robinson, Vaught, Mills, Higgins. That team was immensely talented as well as being experienced.

Disagree with you completely on Frieders. IMO he was a poor coach. That was a different team the minute they fired him. Suddenly (and sadly for us) they started playing to their potential.

interesting discussion on UM forums.. they think he's done
The "Woody Hayes" comparison they mention there is right on, IMO.

Martell takes over, they go undefeated rest of year, Howard gives acceptance speech about how he knew it was in his team, he just had to fire them up.
Diabate and potentially one or two others may get disciplinary action. If Diabate gets suspended 3 games, they have no chance at ncaa bid.

It's a testament to how much Knight intimidated everyone in the Big Ten that after he threw the chair on the court, the announcers' reaction is, "Hmmm, it's possible that Knight gets ejected for this."
On Letterman show, he tells a story (watch youtube vid) about a nice little old lady he was kindly tossing his chair to.

#247
My god, they let Howard do a presser and he is blaming the whole thing on Gard. There you go. Take no responsibility and double down that you were justified in hitting/slapping an opposing coach. Wow.
"Gard put his hands on me!!!!!" after not mentioning what he said or the fact that he didn't try to shake hands.
I know, I know I'm enjoying this way too much, I probably need help with my anger issues. LOL

suspensions galore out of this, Howard I think really does have to go.

Outside of the two Michigan players swinging, if you watch the video #0 Jahcobi Neath for wiscons throws a couple of punchs thata Diatbate was retaliating from.
