So state of the BTT for Illinois:
- They can't be on the same side of the bracket as Wisconsin.
- If they get the 1 seed, they'll likely get Michigan or Indiana
- If they get the 2 seed, they'll likely get MSU or Maryland
- If they get the 3 seed, they'll likely get Rutgers or PSU

One last thing on the B1G tournament...

There are 7 B1G games left, one for each team. Home teams are favored in all 7. If the favorites all win, this is the bracket:

1. Wisconsin (16-4)
2. Illinois (15-5)
3. Purdue (14-6)
4. Ohio State (13-7)
5. Rutgers (12-8)
6. Iowa (12-8)
7. Michigan State (11-9)
8. Michigan (10-10)
9. Indiana (9-11)
10. Maryland (7-13)
11. Penn State (7-13)
12. Northwestern (7-13)
13. Minnesota (4-16)
14. Nebraska (3-17)

This is absurd. I heard this on the way to the game last night and had a little bit of road rage afterward.

Can we request to be a 4 seed in the same bracket as Pearl? Lunardi has us there now, but can we just go ahead and lock it in if we are a 4....
There's a lot of context missing here. Every team is asked what region they would prefer, in the case they get a 1 seed. Regions are assigned in seed order by preference. So, this is only relevant if Duke is a 1 seed and the option between the East and Midwest regions are still available.

Yea, Seth Davis is a hack..he knew exactly what he was doing by leaving out a mountain of context in his original tweet.

Not just a 1-seed, THE #1 overall seed. Yeah, it's a bunch of nothing to generate rage and clicks.

3 is so far and away the best first game it’s ridiculous

Rutgers on a neutral site would be first choice For first game in btt

LOL. We're hopefully getting the #2 seed, so playing Rutgers is unlikely anyway. But I happen to agree with the opposite. What does a team need to do before entering the ncaa tournament? Exorcise their demons. Prove that you can beat the size and desperate fight of Rutgers. Absolutely I want to play and beat them. Then I want Purdue. Then I want Wisconsin, just to drive the point home ... again.

Rutgers on a neutral court is fine. People forget we blitzed them last year in the B10 tourney and they arguably had a better roster last year.

I know we are 21-8 and 2nd in BIG, but I worry about every team we play here on out, because you never know which Fighting Illini team is showing up, literally(injuries) and figuratively (Jeckel & Hyde personality of play). Plus every team is playing knowing its one and done which can make strange things happen.

I actually could see an early departure at the BTT. Underwood has talked about the focus already being on the NCAA tourney opposed to last year when they were upset about the Michigan decision and thought they had something to prove in the BTT.

I do think the pain of the Loyola loss is in the mind of most of the roster which should help come tourney time. They are susceptible if the 3s aren't falling or if there is a good stretch 5 that can pull Kofi out on defense but still hold their own on defense.

Thank you for posting this! I had to go back and look up the roaster (couldn’t remember who 20 was [Myke Henry]). Looking at the collection of talent, it’s unbelievable we barely squeaked into the tournament and only finished 8-10 in conf with 23-13 record. At one point we had a 1-6 stretch in the middle of the conf after starting the season 12-0 and ranked 10.

I wish we could have had Underwood coach that team. Minus Tracy, the rest of that team was long and fairly athletic (and Tracy was a bull dog). I bet Underwood could have made that season special (a man can dream 😂)
my worst memory of that year is how little we used Henry. He could have really helped us if he hadn't transferred to Depaul.

I think the biggest reason to avoid Rutgers is they have such a bad Net. They would be less valuable than beating say MSU.

Would winning the big ten regular season lock us in as a 3 seed?
I don't think we're a lock for a 3 seed unless we win the next two games. Edit: Maybe even not unless we win the next three games.

Still a 4 on the matrix and not getting a ton of help from teams above us. I do think we're above Providence regardless of what the matrix says.

Agreed. To put another way, I think if we win tomorrow and make it to the BTT final, we're a 3. If we win tomorrow and our first BTT game, then get eliminated in the semis, we still have a chance at a 3 but it's tougher. Otherwise, we're probably a 4.
