No but still! This season is about us, not Mizzou. Don't let Stockholm syndrome of braggin' rights distort your worldview. Caring about another teams failures more than your own successes is the mentality of a loser. We don't care to shift focus away from ourselves anymore. Own that #3 SOS nationally! We are no longer losers! I-L-L.
Alright, you got me on board! I-N-I.

Weird coincidence?

COVID-related?

After effects of the 17-18 shoe scandal causing talent to get dispersed across programs more evenly?
I do think that the limitations on nonconference games and on practices have hurt teams with a lot of freshmen this year. It's just that much more difficult for them to get accustomed to the higher level of competition, unless they're elite-elite guys like Suggs or Dickenson. And I don't know how many other guys belong in that conversation this year. What I do know is that none of them are playing for Duke, UNC, or UK.

I don't know what's going on in Lawrence, and I really don't care.

The one thing I know is that we can stop hearing about their consecutive conference titles.

On the contrary, I like seeing that 3 of our 5 losses are to top 10 teams. That suggests a high floor during March Madness.
Dealing w Mizery is still not worth it. We will be fine regardless.

I'm not sure what's going on, but I have to admit, I'm confused by it. How can so many loaded teams (on paper) struggle so badly? It's not like we're talking about a one-off. And we're not talking about teams with good talent, these are loaded teams in a normal year. Kentucky is a particularly strange case IMO. They not only landed the #1 recruiting class, they nabbed a couple highly sought after transfers and were pegged by a number of publications as FF material.

Some of the notables: (Preseason / current, or NET if not receiving votes)
#6 Kansas #33
#9 Duke #71
#10 Kentucky #80
#13 MSU #91
#16 North Carolina #50

MSU is the real head-scratcher there for me. It's easy to imagine teams with a lot of newcomers and a lot of freshmen playing poorly without the benefit of a full summer and fall schedule, especially if those freshmen had a large part of their senior seasons cancelled. That wouldn't apply to MSU, though.

I guess it's safe to say that there's a great deal of variation in terms of how teams -- including players, coaching staffs, and administrations -- have been able to deal with the challenges presented by the pandemic. Maybe Tom Izzo can't put shoulder pads on a virus and make it do rebounding drills? Who knows.

Michigan State lost Winston and Tillman. That's 33 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists per game gone. Langford was coming back from a lot of lost time and they added Joey Hauser. Their recruiting class was nothing special this year.

It seems like a case of their returning players not progressing as people expected. That's not all that surprising. Rocket Watts, in particular, didn't make the jump many projected.

MSU did not have a great PG to replace Winston. It really shows when watching them.

How many years has it been since Kansas, Duke, North Carolina, Kentucky and Louisville have all been unranked at the same time?

Anyone else mentally preparing themselves for final B1G standings like this: Illinois: 15-3, with a victory in the only head-to-head matchup with Michigan, Michigan 13-2. Illinois 1/2 game up in the standings, but title awarded to Michigan based on better winning percentage.

I really couldn’t understand their preseason ranking. Iowa, and Wisconsin were bringing back all of their teams that were very good the previous season and high ranking were reasonable. MSU ranking like Duke, Kentucky, etc was based on a history of strong performance. Michigan and UI will probably get some of that love next year if we finish well.

I'm storming the B1G capitol if that happens.

Satire of course.

Is it actually based on win percentage? I would assume if we were up by half a game, we'd be award it, since we are technically higher.

They have not decided yet, according to an Athletic article from earlier in the week.

I think winning percentage makes the most sense, because teams really have no control over how many games they play. Still, if we go 15-3 while Michigan goes 13-2 and loses the head-to-head with us on their court, I am gonna have a tough time sticking to that principle.

They are a good PG from being good. I have watched a few of their games and they have tried to make a PG from three 2 guards. Also, their bigs are always out of position when it comes to rebounding. This is such a non Izzo type team.

Well, we beat Indiana 2 as their only two loses in 89 and they won the conference but we both got 1 seeds. Given the choice of winning the league and winning the NCAA championship, I will naturally take the NCAA as I bet you would. LOL
