Indiana won the conference that year with 3 losses (twice to us, once @Iowa). Regarding tournament seeds ...Well, we beat Indiana 2 as their only two loses in 89 and they won the conference but we both got 1 seeds. Given the choice of winning the league and winning the NCAA championship, I will naturally take the NCAA as I bet you would. LOL
2 years ago we'd been happy saying that just for the B1GWe're #6?
Really shows how stacked the B1G is this year.Indiana won the conference that year with 3 losses (twice to us, once @Iowa). Regarding tournament seeds ...
1 Illinois
2 Indiana
3 Michigan
4 Iowa
11 Minnesota
I believe Knight made a big fuss about the seeding, arguing IU deserved the 1 as conference champs.
Based simply on KenPom, here’s where B1G teams would be seeded if the season ended today
I stand corrected, I thought IU went 16-2. I do remember Wisky kicking our butt by 20 before we went on our winning streak which carried into the tourneyIndiana won the conference that year with 3 losses (twice to us, once @Iowa). Regarding tournament seeds ...

That was so long ago that Rutgers and Penn State were both in the A-10. Now here they are 32 years later in the B1G.It'd be interesting to know how KenPom's algorithm would have ranked teams going into the 1989 tournament. Back then, there were only 10 conference teams, so obviously the volume wouldn't match up.
