Soooooo early, but WOW!
You guys are right, interesting.
Hope Edoardo can keep it rolling.

This a very long course which means scoring when those rare opportunities allow is vital to advancing. That said, -6 through 8 holes on any course is absolutely amazing!

Illini 7 under right now because Edoardo by himself is 7 under.
What a day for him !
(and, yes, I'm worried about the jinx)

Paign,

You jinxed them!!!

The wheels fell off on the last 4 holes for these guys...

Ouch.

Yikes, that was a bad 30 minutes of golf.
My bad, oh man, my bad.:(

On the plus side, I'll just note that the Illini have started several tournaments this year slowly.
At least they didn't start this one slowly. Maybe not red-hot, but they're right there after round 1.

I'll take that even par today. Let's see how everyone else finishes. Confident we'll stay in top 3.

How does this scoring work? Count best 4 or all 5? Feagles must have hit some water or lost a ball on that 17th hole.

Illinois played holes 16-18 at +10.

Here is how the other top teams played over that same stretch.

UNLV, +1
New Mexico,+7
South Carolina, +9,
Florida, +6
Auburn, +10
Purdue, +8

Nice start today, Tadiotto holes out for eagle on the first hole! Only downside there is the round can only get worse for him from there. :)

EDIT: Ouch, didn't mean that to happen so soon.

The fact that everyone in the Top 6 is under par except Illinois on a high 70 degree day with manageable wind.

Hard to say if that's due to the conditions or not, the teams at the top tend to be the better teams and/or teams that are playing well. Also it's their second look at the course today. And we don't know if perhaps the pins/tees are easier. We'll see how many are under par after they all get through the back 9.

I'm pretty sure the back nine will bring down most team scores. That said, Illinois hasn't been carding birdies anywhere near as often as the other top squads.

The Illini are going to have to play their asses off tomorrow, or they'll be on the outside looking in, with the national championships in our own backyard.

Let's go boys! Pull it out!

Interesting to see the home course advantages in these regional tournaments. Of all of them, Washington is really the only home team that isn't performing well. In some cases (Baton Rouge, Austin, Stanford, College Grove) - it's a bloodbath for the rest of the field.
