I'd be legitimately shocked if we beat wvu. Tough game for Tracy so early in the comeback. Tjl or Tate need to play well above expectations, JCL's handles and decision making need to be decidedly improved. Malcolm should be fine. But other wings off the bench, DJW, AJ? Tough task to get spot minutes here and there vs that kind of pressure.

I think last year's Iowa State team was better than this year's WVU team.

WVU is going to miss Devin Williams in a game like this. Not saying we'll pull it out but they're going to have a hard time with Thorne.

I'll hold off expectations simply because we will have to wait and see how the game gets officiated. If refs let WV get away with its typical physical game, we might be in trouble. IF they call it tight, we can put it away at the line.

No sure what best means, but as far as spectacular, Derrick Jones' HS mixtape was better :)

While that is amazing, it's pretty much just dunks and many of them are fast breaks or dunk contests. It's cool, sure, but one-dimensional.

Dennis Smith Jr's tape shows some crazy dunks, crazy handles, and spectacular passes. That's what makes it stand out to me above the mostly-dunk tapes.

I think it was Mickey Mitchell that had one of the best highlights tapes I've ever seen. He did it all as well.

From what I can see on this board, I won't be popular for this.

I've got 17-12. Maybe still a NIT invite. I could easily see this flip up to 20 wins though I think that will be our ceiling this year.

Haha, that's a change of pace for these predictions!

Barring injuries, I think this is way too bad of a prediction. It's no improvement over the last couple injury-ridden years...and our injury luck has been catastrophic lately. I could easily see Thorne and Abrams get re-injured, due to their history. If that happens, you might be on track here. But if it doesn't, we should be quite a bit better than this.

I think you mean 18-13.

I think Maryland and Iowa take steps backward while we play good quality steady ball. Our offense goes through alpha-dog, Malcolm Hill. JCL opens up the offense from deep. Thorne and Maverick man the post, giving us a presence down low we haven't had in years. Lots of depth to wear teams down and stay fresh for the entire season.

23-8 regular season. 7th in the BIG. #7 seed. Sweet 16.

Dennis Smith, Jr is expected to be a top-5 pick in next year's NBA draft. He's regarded by some draftniks as the best PG prospect since DRose. Fellow 5-star freshman Omer Yurtseven is a possible first round talent. He's a 7-footer who can run the floor and shoot. Had 91 points and 28 rebounds in one game at Basketball Without Borders apparently. Two other freshmen, Ted Kapita and Markell Johnson, are borderline top-50 recruits. Johnson reclassified late or he probably would have ended up ranked even higher - he's almost as athletic as Smith, Jr.

Transfer Torin Dorn was the C-USA freshman of the year after averaging 12 pts, 4 reb, and shooting 51% at Charlotte (he sat last year). Another transfer, Terry Henderson from WVA, was supposed to start last year, but hurt his ankle and took a medical redshirt. He averaged 11.7 pts and shot 38% from beyond the arc as a sophomore at WVA.

They've also got their own Maverick: Mav Rowan averaged 12.9 pts and 3.1 reb as a freshman last year. He was ranked #40 composite in 2015. 6'7 wing who was known as a big time scorer in high school. Originally a 2016 recruit, but reclassified and ended up starting last year.

Beyond all that, they've got a couple of serviceable veteran bigs. The main problem for us is that they've got a ton of size, athleticism, and scoring in the backcourt. Smith, Jr, Markell Johnson, Henderson, Rowan, and Dorn will be one of the top 10 backcourt rotations in the country. Also, the Pack have at least 4 guys who would be unequivocally our best athlete.

All that said, I think we have a decent chance against NC State. They're super young and inexperienced. They could be a handful come March, but it may take them awhile to gel.

Listening to ACC updates on the local ESPN, Gottfried said Smith JR. graduated High School Early & spent the spring semester at NC State last year...sounds like he was at practice, but didn't practice? But he may be a fair bit ahead of where most freshman start the season.

Gottfied wouldn't have anything to worry about if he kept the Martin twins(UNLV), Kyle Washington(Cincy), Cat Barber(early entry/Undrafted iirc),and Lennard Freeman wasn't injured. They'd be a top 15 squad without a doubt.
