Once the 15 are set does everyone start even or do we retain our scores and just add on to them?

Scores are retained, and the parings and tee times will be set by the ranking so that the top teams go out last.

Current status: in at a 2-way tie for 14th.

8 teams have finished or are almost certainly finishing ahead of us, so our potential high finish right now is 9th.

Kentucky and Ok. State currently 2 and 1 strokes back, both on their last 3 holes - both finishing worse than us would go a long way in peace of mind right now.

6 more teams are ahead of us but within 5 strokes and just starting their rounds.

Texas is the only team to this point today to finish under par. Since there are a few teams ahead of us still playing that are within a stroke or two it's looking good for us finishing in the top 15.

FYI - if there's a tie that isn't across the cut (i.e., a tie for 10th where all that matters is the 4th round pairings) the tiebreakers are: 1. cumulative total of the non-counting scores (+17 for us), 2. highest cumulative individual total (+15 for us), 3. second-highest (+8), and so on (last resort is a committee decision).

Oklahoma State, who it looks like we'll tie with, has a +11 cumulative non-counting scores, so they'll get a better pairing than us if it comes to that.

One interesting note: Illinois and Purdue are the only cold-weather teams in the tournament and Purdue is in dead last right now.

Oregon is also in the tourney and is generally considered cold weather. Probably not as severe winters as Illinois/Indiana, but still cold.

Well under the cut line now and tied for 9th. Is the next cut off at 8 teams?

If so, they are only 1 stroke off of 8th place, so it looks like they have a solid chance of making the cut, IF they play well.

Yes, top 8 teams at the end of tomorrow advance to match play.

The Golfweek guy on Twitter is saying that the tie has been resolved by counting all five scores for all three rounds. The order on golfstat.com is correct.

Ah thanks. I guess the rules have changed. I was wondering how they were going to squeeze in a playoff.

Well, the playoff is of course more exciting, but going to the cards is much more fair while keeping with the spirit of the tournament. This is a team championship. To have the #5 scorers travel all this way and play three days of golf just to be told that their score still doesn't matter rings false to me.

Said Deacon: “There are way too many people who work way too hard to lose out on a scorecard playoff. I know how much hard work the kids put in and the coaches put in. To end your season on a scorecard playoff just doesn’t seem right to me.”

Coach, everyone's number fives worked hard, too. If those of #16 (or those of your SEC brethren) had played well enough to tie #15, then you'd probably have gotten your playoff. As things are, just be thankful that you get to play more golf.

You are 100% correct! Scoreboard(card) baby! What's more important then how your TEAM plays? If a 5th player plays, how can you make it inconsequential? At some point it has to matter or why let them play at all? This is the lamest of arguments.

The tee times aren't as straightforward as I thought tomorrow. We tee off just after noon, starting with the back nine again. Guess it makes sense to have teams on course as close together as possible, time-wise, in case there's shifting weather.

It would seem to me that the #5 scorer (dropped score for the round) could be different player from day to day based on how the team plays. IMO, the #5 scorers wouldn't ever be wasting their time travelling because no one knows which player's score will be dropped until the round is over. Instead, they could take the #1 score for each day as the playoff/tiebreaker. Let your best scores for each day of the tourney decide your fate (not all #1 players are the lowest score each day). Using the worst score from each round seems like a strange way to settle advancing to me. Maybe instead of OT in basketball, we could have a free throw contest between the two worst % FT shooters on each team. Not sure that I agree with the NCAA on this one...

At least we are in and didn't have to sweat out this "playoff". Now lets go make the top 8!:chief:

So what is the format today? Is it the same with the top 8 teams moving forward after today? Then Match play tomorrow?

It is round 4. Scores carry over, but just with the top 15 teams. Top 8 move on to match play.

So the Illini need to make up a couple strokes on the teams in front of them, but not let a team come from behind either. With the way the scores are grouped, they are in an ok spot. The top 5 look pretty safe, then it is pretty tight through Illinois (T9), but the bottom 5 are starting further back.

Does anyone know if it'd be a scorecard tiebreaker again today? Or was that just because there were 5 teams yesterday? In case it's scorecard, obviously it would depend on the 5th scores today, but going into today the ordering of cumulative dropped scores is:

Texas (+11)
Ok. State (+11)
LSU (+13)
Arkansas (+14)
Vandy (+16)
Illinois (+17)
Oregon (+18)
UK (+18)
USC (+19)
L'Ville (+20)
Cal (+21)
Florida (+21)
S. Carolina (+22)
ASU (+23)
Oklahoma (+24)

We are about 1/3 of the way through the back 9, which has played tougher on this course, and are making up some ground. While every one ahead of us has started on the front 9. Good stuff!
