2016 PGA Tour season

All 4 Illini playing this weekend at the CareerBuilder Challenge. Guthrie, Langley and Points all in via sponsor's exemptions. Stricker also playing as a tour winner entry, seems like he's going to play more events this season?

And Thomas Pieters starts his season in Abu Dhabi on the European Tour, playing in the same HSBC event as some guys named Spieth, McIlroy and Fowler. :D This one's on the Golf Channel starting tonight.

Been waiting for you, WVC !
Thanks for starting this.
I wonder what the crowds are like for the CareerBuilder?
I'm in the desert and I could go . . .

Just watched the finish, Pieters missed an eagle on 18 by an inch, would have forced a playoff with Rickie. Great to see him going head to head with the best in the world. He's going to get to play in the Olympics this season and with a few more good finishes, he'll be in the OWGR top 50 and get in a bunch of top events. Oh, maybe the Ryder Cup, too? :D

I especially liked the clutch par saving putt on 17, followed by two clutch long shots to get him that eagle opportunity. Looked good (although he could smile a bit more).

I watched the replay later that morning, he also had a nice up and down to save par on 15 and then missed a 15' birdie on 16 that could have tied it up. Oh well....

He's now #58 in the world golf rankings, another good finish or two will get him in the top 50 and that gets him in a lot of big time events.

185 meters for a 6 iron ?
Not actually a surprise, it is "only" 200 yards and these pros are crazy long, but when I compare it to the amateur on this end of the keyboard, we end up with "eek" as the proper emoji

Stricker tied for the lead heading into the 3rd round of the Valspar.

Thomas Pieters rebounding nicely after a couple of missed cuts. Second straight 66 has him 3 shots off the lead in Thailand going into tomorrow's final round.

That sounds like a nice little trip, Orlando and Austin in the springtime.
Wonder if he needs help with his bag? I'd love to be there.

Golf Channel commentators have nothing but praise for Pieters and his game. Saying he's one of the young stars of the future. Nice to hear.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Even in Champaign, Ill., home of the perennial juggernaut Fighting Illini, Thomas Pieters made an impression right from the start.

"He had one the best swings I've ever seen show up on campus," Illinois head coach Mike Small said.

That beautiful arcing motion did wonders. The Belgian giant, Pieters stands at 6 feet 6 inches, put in three years with the Fighting Illini and earned two All-America distinctions and an individual NCAA Championship. Pieters, who left school a year early after the 2012-13 season, is the only Illinois golfer in Small's tenure (which stretches back to 2000) to not graduate from the University, not that it's held against the Belgian.

After all, who could deny a player of Pieter's caliber a chance to turn pro early.

"He's probably the most talented guy I've had (in the program), and we've had a few guys on the PGA Tour," Small said.

Hope Thomas gets it going soon. After 1 hole on Friday, he's 2 over and T96. Needs a couple of strokes to make the weekend.
