Why should a kid be forced to get a Masters at the same place they got their Undergrad? Once a kid graduates, they don't owe the school anything and are not tied to that school for life. The school should not have any power over them once they graduate, just as the school should have no influence on where other undergraduate students decide to get their graduate degrees. Kids should be rewarded for graduating, not penalized.

I think you need to read again what I wrote.

So, this may have been discussed already, but how will Mark Alstork be finishing up his studies at Wright State - on campus in Akron or off campus/online in CU? If in Akron, I assume he'll make some of the summer practice sessions in CU when he can.

Brain Fahrt?

Wright State is in Dayton. :)

I was thinking along these lines as well. For those who feel it would hurt Pitt reputation wise, I also feel a confernce transfer rule is not that absurd, even for grad transfers. A school who has developed a player for three years should have some say in not necessarily having to play against said player two-three times a year at a confernce foe.

Just wait until a UNC grad wants to transfer to Duke, then see the tar heels change their tune :D

I was thinking along these lines as well. There have been a lot of good opinions on this matter. To me it is almost kind of my head says one thing, my heart says another. I don't think there should be restrictions but also seems as if there is a case for restricting a player from transferring within the conference they are in. For instance, what if Hill played for us for 3 years racking up the impressive numbers he actually did then transferred to Northwestern? How odd would that be? Not only for Illini players to be now playing against him but also for fans who, I am guessing, would then consider him to be something along the lines of a traitor (maybe a little strong, but I am sure there would be fans who would think this).

I am pretty sure I read somewhere that he is finishing up his studies on campus at Wright State (wherever it is ;)). As far as your other implied question I don't know how that would work.

Another player to just hit the market, played in NCAA tournament, good size, alot of places be after him, Drick Bernstein.

Exactly what we need, may even allow Greg (not trying to spell his last name) to redshirt. Not a requirement to get anymore, but would be a nice cherry.

I just want a kid named "Drick" on my team. Sounds like one of the Munsters.

I don't think we would RS anyone even if we add another 5th year big, unless DaWill isn't ready, I would guess all it would do is let Black and even Finke play a little more off the post. As things stand right now do I think we will see Black, Finke and Greg-e on the court all at the same time, NO, but I do expect to see 2 of them out there at the same time some

I like a guy who put up 20 and 15 vs AZ in the tournament.

Exactly, the fact that Drick held his own and then some against the AZ frontcourt is a good sign. Although he's not a big scorer, he seems to know his role, he's averaged 9 and 8 rebound per game the last two years.

He would be exactly what we can use - a rotational big to spell Finke and Black and play some post defense and get rebounds. He would get significant minutes here (20+ mpg) and there's very little downside to us taking him like all 5th year transfers - sign him up!

I like the 9 and 8, with Greg-Es 14 and 14 as a SR, but do you think he would play 20 mins a game here or were you saying he was playing that ?

He played around 30 minutes a game the last two years at North Dakota

ok so 20 a game here wouldn't be a stretch at all, plus 10-15 from Greg-E, Black and Finke clean up the other 5-10

Having another big as grad transfer is the best idea, and a big, even better . Would give us and experienced player to backup 5 spot, plus there will be times we might need someone to give us minutes for short term, or heaven forbid, and injury.
Recruitment has been about as good as we could ask, so one more big would make things more secure in roster. Drick, not knowing alot about him , would have seemed to pop up at a really great time for us.:illinois:

I am all for adding another 5th ear big, and to be totally honest everyone from 5th year to income freshman all are in the same boat as far as knowing the system. Would really make for some competition in practice for playing time. The faster you can learn things the more time you will see I would guess

You two passed my trick test, Alstork will be finishing up his studies in Dayton rather than online, next time I'll use Cleveland or Toledo as an example, so heads up - and thanks. ;) Anyway, I hope Alstork can make as many Illini summer practices as possible.

I suspect if Drick signs on, then Greg E falls out of the rotation for next year
That's fine. Hopefully he could redshirt. Another year of development for him and learning under BU and OA could do wonders by the time he'd see the floor and would be nice to have an established system player once he's an upperclassman.

This - Greg E will likely not be ready to play next year, just given he's a true freshman without a lot of basketball experience. Not knowing him at all, but it's rare for a freshman big man to contribute, even rarer for someone with his background.

The long term upside is certainly there

Since Drick is from Colorado and played in North Dakota, would CU's tepid temps be a hindrance or benefit. BTW I lived in Grand Forks for 5 winters. It is very cold up there. I do hate to see UND called the Fighting Hawks. PC police made them change from Fighting Sioux to Sioux now Fighting Hawks. :p

The controversy surrounding Chief Illiniwek I can understand. But the Sioux thing confused me, since I though the University had the blessing of the actual Sioux nation leaders, though I'm sure it wasn't unanimous amongst all of its people. Kinda (but not exactly) like FSU and the Seminole nation.

The Chief thing still makes no more sense than any other. But, then I digress. All players who come to Illinois still pay for the Fighting Illini!

It would make for an interesting decision; because 3 bigs still isn't very deep I'm not convinced we could redshirt him. When Finke redshirted we had Egwu (who was able to play a lot of minutes for a 5), Morgan, Colbert, and Black, plus Hill playing a lot of 4 because we had Rice/Cosby/Kendrick available at 2/3.

The young man avg. 14/14 and 2 blocks, I would be willing to say he is our best post defender already,

I was kind of hoping to see him go up against Tilmon in the Braggin' Rights and of course out play Tilmon. Or am I being too petty?
