2017 Basketball Transfer Thread

What makes you say that, and how do you define "surprising people?"

A) they dress up as women named Buffy and Hildegard and take up residency in thew women's dorms.

B) They turn out to be related.

C) They repeatedly sneak up behind people and scream "SURPRISE!"

D) It's revealed they both were registered to vote in Colorado for the 2016 election.

We got this new kid named Hanks who would be better suited for this.

Thought that was an interesting transfer when it happened. I can't imagine us taking him now, though a couple months ago I would've been all for it.

Let the freshman big eat up the rest minutes. No need to add a cook to the pot.
I agree with letting the FR play and play as much as they can and should. if they aren't going to redshirt then they need to play good mins, BUT we could still use the body even if he sat on the bench for the year , its someone else to have for practice, and its someone IF someone happened to get hurt. If in any way he would tie up a ship after this year then no way no how do we want to take him though

I know BU said he was against grad transfer, but I don't know why this wouldn't be a good idea. Have the scholarship open and we could use. See what happens, sounds like Coach was pretty set on not adding another player. :noidea::noidea:

Yes he said he didn't like it m but he also said it helped this year getting Mark A. and he did also say he didn't think they would add any more FR this year but they would still look for help for this year if they found something. I for one am glad we have a coach who is going to get FR and Play FR and not look for grad transfers

Grad transfers aren't nor have they been the problem. The problem has been the huge positional holes we have had the last few years. Maniscalco was to fill a huge gap at pg, Mclaurin came in because we really needed a big, Lewis & Thorne were similiar deals. You can sort of count Starks in the same boat, as he was expected to be a 1 yr schollie. Better positional recruiting of freshman & we wouldn't have had those holes to fill, grad transfers weren't plan "A". Fortunately, we addressed those needs well with a bunch of guys who can play pg & added 2 bigs. Start filling scholarships every year & we will be well on our way to moving away from Grad transfers.

Also haven't been the solution but an attempt at a short term fix which was needed each year.

BU probably should not use this as a recruiting pitch, though. ;)

Without knowing the Whiman situation totally, my guess he is leaving to get PT, which I still think we could offer. We are only injury away from having big trouble. Kansas picked him up, he played some, but maybe he didn't fit Self's plan. See what happens, sure worth a look.;)

What are the chances he is still eligible? Seems like he showed up & started practicing at Kansas, less than that seemed to cost Kipper a year? Obviously Duke must feel there is a chance, but will this take an appeal?

In the end I think we got what we should have expected, they helped, they just couldn't bridge the gap we needed them too; Maniscalco bought some time for Tracy to come along, McLaurin was a nice piece to our last NCAA tourney team, Lewis played because he was the best we had, Thorne looked like he may have been a solution before he got hurt. So in all cases, except maybe Thorne I think we would have been worse without them. All in all, IMO McLaurin/Lewis met what we should have expected, Maniscalco/Thorne I hoped for more, but injuries kept both from seeing what they were capable of.

In the end, better recruiting of freshman and this conversation becomes less important & we avoid most of those short term problems you mention.

Supposedly he had only started practicing and was not attending classes and I don't think 5th years sign LOI's.

Also brings up the question as to why he is leaving.

If its because he realized he wasn't going to be a focal point, then Self is really good at selling bridges in Brooklyn to players.

If it was for some much more negative activity, which essentially would've gotten him kicked off or suspend heavily from the team, then I really dont think he will be good for this team, regardless of skill level.

Need a clean start, literally.

I'm guessing he was coldly Creaned for room to take Bagley. Really unfair if he loses eligibility over it. I hope it was Whitmans decision and not Self being a bagand showing him the door after convincing the kid to transfer there. He's looking at Duke now so PT was not likely an issue.

You're probably right about the "Creaning" but according to Rock Chalk Talk, a Kansas Jayhawks community (draw your own conclusions as to the veracity of said web site) Self was caught "totally off guard" by the news of the transfer. Others have pointed out that Whitman may have been intimidated by Mitch Lightfoot. Others say he just wanted more playing time. Take Self's comment with the usual grain of salt.

Just don't understand why Whitman thinks he can get more playing time at Duke

Still say worth a look, maybe staff has and we didn't make Whitman's list. Still a couple weeks till anything happens, see if we make some moves. Think we will pass, sure like that one more big.:(

Apparently Lightfoot recently suffered a broken nose in practice. Interesting timing. Could be nothing.

So that's Oregon, Louisville, Ohio State and New Mexico and he's still just a junior.

The former Buckeye will sit out the 2017-18 season, but will still have two years of eligibility left. Lyle left the Ohio State program in April, and was arrested in his hometown of Evansville just a few weeks later.
